Shirley Waijayantha
Kalabhooshana Visharad Shirley Waijayantha Gunasinghe ( Sinhala:ෂර්ලි වෛජයන්ත), is a Sri Lankan singer, musician, music instructor and music teacher by profession. Born in 1956. One of the founding members of Bellwood College of Music in Sri Lanka, Waijayantha has produced several leading singers to the Sri Lankan classical music industry in a career spanning more than four decades. Personal life He was born in Dalugama, Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. He was educated at Eeriyawetiya Maha Vidyalaya. Career During the school times, he did not focus on music. The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) (, ''Shrī Lankā Guvan Viduli Sansthāva'', , ''Ilangkai Oliparappuk Kūṭṭuttāpaṉam'') came into existence on 5 January 1967 when Radio Ceylon became a public corporation. Dudley Senanayake who was the Prime Minister of Ceylon in 1967 ceremonially opened the newly established Ceylon Broadcasting Corporation along with Minister Ranasinghe Premadasa and the Director-General of the CBC, Neville Jayaweera.
