Shirley Palmer (January 26, 1943 – March 28, 2023) was an American politician who served as a Democratic member of the Kansas House of Representatives, represented the 4th district from 2007 to 2011. Palmer ran for re-election in 2010, but was defeated by Republican Marty Read. Caryn Tyson
Caryn Tyson (born February 15, 1963) is a Republican member of the Kansas Senate, representing the 12th district since 2013. She succeeded Republican Senator Pat Apple, who chose to run in the newly redistricted 37th district, winning that seat. She was previously a member of the Kansas House of Representatives, representing District 4 from 2011 to 2013. Tyson is a fifth generation Kansan from Parker, Kansas. Fort Scott is a city in and the county seat of Bourbon County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 7,552. It is named for Gen. Winfield Scott. The city is located south of Kansas City on the Marmaton River. It is the home of the Fort Scott National Historic Site and the Fort Scott National Cemetery. Pittsburg State University (Pitt State or PSU) is a public university in Pittsburg, Kansas. It enrolls approximately 7,400 students (6,000 undergraduates and 1,400 graduate students) and is a member of the Kansas Board of Regents. History Pittsburg State University was founded in 1903 as the Auxiliary Manual Training Normal School, originally a branch of the State Normal School of Emporia (now Emporia State University).
