The Shire of Dundas is a local government area in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. The shire covers an area of and its seat of government is the town of Norseman. Its territory lies between Norseman and the border with South Australia (including much of the Eyre Highway), and is between east of the state capital, Perth. History The shire was first established as the second Dundas Road District on 21 June 1929, when the Norseman Road District was abolished and replaced by a re-established Dundas board. (An earlier Dundas Road District had existed from 1895 to 1918 before amalgamating to form the Norseman district.) Eyre Highway
Eyre Highway is a highway linking Western Australia and South Australia via the Nullarbor Plain. Madura, Western Australia
Madura is a small roadhouse community located on the Eyre Highway in Western Australia, on the Roe Plains. It is from Perth. It is at the foot of the escarpment next to the Madura Pass down from the Nullarbor Plain. UTC+8:45 is the local time zone in use. History Madura was settled in 1876 as a place to breed quality cavalry horses for the British Indian Army for use in the Northwest Frontier region of India (now part of Pakistan). The horses were shipped from the coast at Eucla. (Cervantes, north of Perth, was also used for breeding.) The site was chosen as it was one of the few with free flowing bore water in the area. Eucla ( ) is the easternmost locality in Western Australia, located in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia along the Eyre Highway, approximately west of the South Australian border. At the 2016 Australian census, Eucla had a population of 53. Dundas, Western Australia
Dundas is the name of an abandoned town in the Goldfields-Esperance Region of Western Australia. The town is located about south of Norseman. The town was established during the late 19th century gold rush period. Dundas was the location of an early gold find in the region in 1894. The town was gazetted on 22 May 1895 and derives its name from the Dundas Hills which, in turn, were named after Captain James Whitley Deans Dundas of the Royal Navy ship in 1848. The population of the town was 99 (71 males and 28 females) in 1898. Cocklebiddy, Western Australia
Cocklebiddy is a small roadhouse community located on the Eyre Highway in Western Australia. It is the third stop after Norseman on the journey eastwards across the Nullarbor Plain. Like other locations in the region, the site consists of little more than a roadhouse. It is the nearest locality to the coastal feature of Twilight Cove, which is to the south. Cocklebiddy follows the time zone used by Eucla of UTC+8:45. It is situated from Border Village.
