Shire Of Marble Bar
The Shire of Marble Bar was a local government area in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It was established as the Bamboo Road District on 4 September 1896, and was based in the now-former town of Bamboo Creek. The first election was held in January 1897. It was renamed the Marble Bar Road District on 28 March 1904, after which the board seat moved to Marble Bar. It was declared a shire and named the Shire of Marble Bar with effect from 1 July 1961 following the passage of the ''Local Government Act 1960'', which reformed all remaining road districts into shires. The shire ceased to exist on 27 May 1972, when it amalgamated with the Shire of Nullagine to form the Shire of East Pilbara. Bamboo Creek, Western Australia
Bamboos are a diverse group of evergreen perennial flowering plants making up the subfamily Bambusoideae of the grass family Poaceae. Giant bamboos are the largest members of the grass family. The origin of the word "bamboo" is uncertain, but it probably comes from the Dutch or Portuguese language, which originally borrowed it from Malay or Kannada. The Pilbarra Goldfield News
The ''Pilbarra Goldfield News'' was a newspaper published from 19 February 1897 to 20 March 1923, first in Marble Bar and then, from 1912, in Port Hedland, and is considered one of the earliest publications from the Pilbara. The goldfield located in the Pilbara region was separated into two parts as early as 1896, included mining in Marble Bar, Nullagine, Yandacoogina, and other localities near Marble Bar and Nullagine. Marble Bar, Western Australia
Marble Bar is a town and rock formation in the Pilbara region of north-western Western Australia. Its extremely hot climate, with a mean maximum temperature second only to Wyndham, Western Australia has resulted in the town being well known for its hot weather. History Fossilised stromatolites, found near Marble Bar, are one of the earliest forms of life on Earth, dating to 3.5 billion years ago during the Paleoarchean era, when at that time oxygen produced aerobic organisms. The town was officially gazetted in 1893 following the discovery of gold in the area in 1890 by a prospector named Francis Jenkins who is remembered by the name of the town's main street. The Shire of Nullagine was a local government area in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It was formally established as the Nullagine Road District on 8 July 1898, with part of its territory being severed from the Pilbarra Road District (which evolved into the Town of Port Hedland). It was based in the town of Nullagine. However, its practical establishment and the inaugural election of board members was delayed well into 1899 due to local "differences of opinion". Noel Ashley Crichton-Browne (born 2 February 1944 at Wiluna, Western Australia) is a former member of the Australian Senate and political lobbyist. Early life Crichton-Browne was educated at Scotch College, Perth. Before his career in politics, he was a company manager and served as president of the Marble Bar Shire Council. Career After serving as the state president of the WA division of the Liberal Party from 1975 to 1979, Crichton-Browne was elected to the Senate for Western Australia in 1980 (term beginning 1 July 1981), 1983, 1984, 1987 and 1990. George Miles (politician)
George James Gallup Warden Miles (8 May 1873 in Fremantle, Western Australia – 29 June 1952 in Perth, Western Australia) was a long serving independent member of the Western Australian Legislative Council. Miles participated in the Western Australian gold rushes of the 1890s and settled at Marble Bar, Western Australia, where he became interested in politics and the development of the North-West. He married his wife Nellie in 1906. He was a member of the Marble Bar Road Board from 1906 to 1918 and its chairman from 1909 to 1916. In 1916 Miles was elected to the Legislative Council as an Independent member for the North Province. He held this position for 33 years, until Labor's Harry Strickland succeeded him in 1950.
