Shiranthi Rajapaksa
Mahinda Rajapaksa (; ; born Percy Mahendra Rajapaksa; 18 November 1945) is a Sri Lankan politician. He served as the sixth President of Sri Lanka from 2005 to 2015; the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka from 2004 to 2005, 2018, and 2019 to 2022; the Leader of the Opposition from 2002 to 2004 and 2018 to 2019, and the Minister of Finance from 2005 to 2015 and 2019 to 2021. Rajapaksa is a lawyer by profession and was first elected to the Parliament of Sri Lanka in 1970. He served as the leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party from 2005 to 2015. Rajapaksa was sworn in for his first six-year term as president on 19 November 2005. He was subsequently re-elected in 2010 for a second term. Rajapaksa was defeated in his bid for a third term in the 2015 presidential election by Maithripala Sirisena, and he left office on 9 January 2015. Ratnasiri Wickremanayake
Ratnasiri Wickremanayake (, ; 5 May 1933 – 27 December 2016) was a Sri Lankan politician who served as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka from 2000 to 2001 and again from 2005 to 2010, and also served as the Leader of the Opposition from 2001 to 2002. The Ministry of Public Security ( ''Mahajana Arakshaka Amathyanshaya''; ) is a cabinet ministry of the Government of Sri Lanka responsible for law and order. Southern Province, Sri Lanka
The Southern Province ( ''Dakuṇu Paḷāta'', ''Theṉ Mākāṇam'') of Sri Lanka is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka, the first level administrative division of the country. The provinces have existed since the 19th century but did not have any legal status until 1987 when the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka established provincial councils. It is the 7th largest province by area and is home to 2.5 million people, the 3rd most populated province. Weeraketiya
Weeraketiya is a small town in Hambantota District, Southern Province in southern Sri Lanka, about by road north of Tangalle. It is known for being the birthplace of Mahinda Rajapaksa. The town belongs to Weeraketiya Divisional Secretariat. History The St. Joseph's Estate, operated in Weeraketiya during the colonial times, produced tomatoes and coconuts. In 1969, the Germans funded the installation of medium-wave 50 kilowatt transmitters at Maho and Weeraketiya. It was installed by the first quarter of 1970. Landmarks The town lies around the Udakiriwila Tank (lake). The Seegala Temple of Pillars lies near its western bank. Ranjith Kanishka Parakrama Atapattu (29 April 1933 – 8 January 2018) was a Sri Lankan physician and politician. He was the Minister of Health in Sri Lanka from 1982 to 1989 and Minister of Labour and Social Welfare from 1989 to 1990. Biography Ranjith Kanishka Parakrama Atapattu was born on 29 April 1933 in Tangalle to Don Peter Atapattu and Daya Dahanayake. Nirupama Deepika Rajapaksa (born 13 April 1962) is a Sri Lankan politician, a former member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and a former deputy minister. Alavi Moulana
Seyed Ahmed Seyed Alavi Moulana (1 January 1932 – 15 June 2016) was a Sri Lankan politician, who entered politics in 1948 as a trade unionist. He was the 5th Governor of Western Province, having assumed office on 1 February 2002. He was a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Cabinet Minister of Labour, and a councillor in the Colombo Municipal Council.
