Shintoyone Dam
The Shintoyone Dam (新豊根ダム) is a multipurpose dam in the village of Toyone in the Aichi Prefecture of Japan. History The potential of the Tenryū River valley for hydroelectric power development was realized by the Meiji government at the start of the 20th century. The Tenryū River was characterized by a high volume of flow and a fast current. Its mountainous upper reaches and tributaries were areas of steep valleys and abundant rainfall, and were sparsely populated. However, the bulk of investment in hydroelectric power generation in the region was centered on the Ōi River, and it was not until the Taishō period that development began on the Tenryū River. With the completion of the Sakuma Dam, one of the tallest dams in Japan, on the main stream of the Tenryū River, developers turned their eyes to the confluence of the Ōnyugawa (大入川), a major tributary of the Tenryū River, and the Ōchisegawa (大千瀬川) in Aichi Prefecture. Tenryū-Okumikawa Quasi-National Park
is a quasi-national park in the Tōkai region of Honshū in Japan. It is rated a protected landscape (category V) according to the IUCN. The park includes the Tenryū-kyō Gorge of the upper Tenryū River in Iida, Sakuma Dam and its surrounding forests, Atera Seven Falls, Chausu Mountains and Mount Horaiji. It straddles the border between Shizuoka, Aichi and Nagano Prefectures. The area was designated a quasi-national park on October 1, 1969. Shintoyone Pumped Storage Power Station
The is a large pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Toyone, Kitashitara, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. With an installed capacity of , the plant is one of the largest pumped-storage power stations in Japan. The facilities are run by Electric Power Development Company (J-Power). Like most pumped-storage facilities, the power station uses two reservoirs, releasing and pumping as the demand rises and falls.
