Shimizu, Hokkaidō
is a small town located at the base of the Hidaka Mountain Range in Tokachi Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. The name Shimizu is taken from the Ainu word "Pekerebetsu", which means bright clean river. As of 2011, the population of the town is 10,243, and its primary source of income is through agriculture. Shimizu, like many other towns in Hokkaido, is undergoing population decline. is a town located in Hidaka Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. Geography Hidaka Town is divided into two exclaves, which coincide with the former towns of Hidaka and Monbetsu. The town of Biratori lies between the two wards separating them. Hidaka Ward (Hidaka-ku) lies in the Hidaka Mountains at a cross road leading to Sapporo, Furano, Obihiro, and Biratori. New Chitose Airport
is an international airport located south-southeast of Chitose, Hokkaidō, Chitose and Tomakomai, Hokkaidō, Japan, serving the Sapporo metropolitan area. By both traffic and land area, it is the largest airport in Hokkaidō. It is adjacent to Chitose Air Base, a Japan Air Self-Defense Force base which houses F-15 Eagle fighter jets, the Japanese Air Force One government aircraft and a number of smaller emergency response aircraft and helicopters. Nisshō Pass
is a mountain pass high at the north-end of the Hidaka Mountains of Hokkaidō, Japan. The east side feeds into the Tokachi River system and the west side the Saru River system. Overview The area is an important route connecting central and eastern Hokkaido. Although the elevation is only 1,022m, the vegetation and natural environment is comparable to that of 3,000m class mountain areas in Honshu, and driving conditions can be treacherous. Visibility is often impaired due to heavy fog or snowstorms, depending on the season, and the 33.3-km section from Ōdai bridge in Hidaka to Ishiyama in Shimizu is designated a special traffic regulation zone, resulting in measures to improve visibility, and prevent snow and ice on the road surface.
