Shilaidaha Rabindra Kuthibari
Shilaidaha Rabindra Kuthibari, in short Shilaidah Kuthibari, is one of the major tourist places in Bangladesh. It is located seven kilometers north of Kushtia on the banks of Padma River, Padma in Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia District. History This Kuthi bari was built by an indigo-planter named Shelly which was later owned by Ramlochan Tagore. In 1807, Dwarkanath Tagore got the ownership of this kuthibari with the inheritance of estate. In 1892, due to the erosion of the river caused by the flood, the Kuthibari was likely to disappear, so it was demolished and a new building was constructed elsewhere in the next year. Dwarkanath Tagore's grandson Rabindranath Tagore came to Shilaidaha several times to look after the estate. He had the opportunity to stay in this cottage. Shilaidaha () is a village in Shilaidaha Union, Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia District in Bangladesh. The place is famous for Shilaidaha Kuthibari; a country house built by Dwarkanath Tagore. Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore lived a part of his life here and created some of his memorable poems while living here. History The village was formerly known as Khorshedpur. During the reign of British East India Company, an indigo-planter named Shelly built a house in this village, later people started to call the village Shellydaha and the named changed to Shelaidaha. In 1807, Dwarkanath Tagore bought the village and made it his estate. He also bought the building (kuthi) as well. His grandson Rabindranath Tagore came to the village many times. Ekushey Book Fair
The Ekushey Book Fair, officially called the Eternal Twenty-first Book Fair, is the largest book fair in Bangladesh. Organized annually in February by Bangla Academy in Dhaka, the month-long event is free to all. In 2024, the fair attracted six million visitors and generated a record in book sales. Named after the colloquial Bengali name for International Mother Language Day ''or 'Ekushey (), the event commemorates those who died on during the Bengali Language Movement, which sought to establish Bengali as the state languages of former East Pakistan. Structure Usually, the fair continues from 1 to 28 February. It takes place in Bangla Academy premises and Suhrawardi Udyan. ''Samakal'' () is a Bengali-language daily newspaper published in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The paper is owned by Ha-Meem Group. It began publication in 2005. Golam Sarwar was the editor of the paper from its launch until his death in 2018. In 2020, Samakal had a circulation of 270,000, which made it the eighth most widely read newspaper in the country. Over the years, the paper's writers have included Ajoy Dasgupta, Abed Khan, Mizanur Rahman Khan, and Khalil Rahman. Gautam Das, the paper's Faridpur bureau chief, was murdered in November 2005 by junior Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) politicians after reporting on corruption in the party. ''Jaijaidin'' ( '' Jaejaedin'') is a Bengali-language daily newspaper published from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Editor In Bangladesh, ''Jaijaidin'' was published and edited by Shafik Rehman, but he lost the editorship of ''Jaijaidin'' in 2008 for his stand against a military-backed government. Kazi Rukanuddin Ahmed is now the acting editor. Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury is now the chairman of the Board of Editors. It used to be published as a weekly until mid-2006, at which point, it became a daily.
