Shih Hsin University
Shih Hsin University (SHU; ) is a university in Taipei, Taiwan. SHU is best known for its media and mass communication departments in Taiwan, founded in Muzha, Taipei in 1956. History Shih Hsin University was re-established in Taiwan in 1956 as Shih Hsin School of Journalism by the journalists and publishers Cheng Shewo and Yeh Ming-hsun. Originally an institution devoted to training professional journalists, the school became a full-fledged university in August 1997. Now it has four colleges, including the College of Journalism and Communication, the School of Management, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the School of Law, and with an enrollment of around 10,000 students. In Chinese, shih means "the world", and hsin means "new" or "news". In October 2023, the university decided to close down its Chinese Literature Department within two years due to the declining enrollment of its students. Chen Chu (; born 10 June 1950) is a Taiwanese people, Taiwanese politician serving as List of presidents of the Control Yuan, president of the Control Yuan and Chairperson, chairwoman of the National Human Rights Commission (Taiwan), National Human Rights Commission since 2020. Wang Shaw-lan
Wang Shaw-lan (; born 1941) is a Taiwanese businesswoman who serves as the publisher of the ''United Daily News'' and the publishing-ceased Min Sheng Bao in Taiwan. She studied at Shih Hsin University, graduating in 1964. Life and career She was born in Chongqing but the roots of her family are from Zhejiang. She has four younger siblings. In 1947, her father Wang Tiwu, a colonel in the army of Chiang Kai-shek, traveled to Taiwan and founded the newspaper ''United Daily News'', in 1951. The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) is a cabinet-level administrative agency under the Executive Yuan of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The MAC is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of the cross-strait relations policy which targets mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. The MAC's counterpart body in the People's Republic of China is the Taiwan Affairs Office. Both states officially claim each other's territory, though both sides control only part of the claimed territory. Lai Shin-yuan ( zh, t=賴幸媛, p=Lài Xìngyuán, born 9 November 1956) is a Taiwanese social scientist who served as minister of the Mainland Affairs Council from 2008 to 2012. Early life and education Lai was born in Taichung, Taiwan, on 9 November 1956. After graduating from Shih Hsin University with a bachelor's degree, Lai completed advanced studies in England. She earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in international relations in 1983 from the London School of Economics, where she was the roommate of future Taiwanese president Tsai Ing-wen. Legislative Yuan
The Legislative Yuan () is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of China (Taiwan) located in Taipei. The Legislative Yuan is composed of 113 members, who are directly elected for four-year terms by people of the Taiwan Area through a parallel voting system. Originally located in Nanjing, the Legislative Yuan, along with the National Assembly (electoral college) and the Control Yuan (upper house), formed the tricameral parliament under the original 1947 Constitution.
