Shih Chia-hsin
Shih Chia-hsin (; November 9, 1922 – November 27, 2013) was a Taiwanese liberal politician, financier and teacher. Born in the prosperous harbour of Donggang, he was twice elected as mayor of his hometown, in 1953 and 1956. Widely seen as a successful municipal administrator, Shih was forced out of politics for his disobedience to the Kuomintang (KMT) regime. Shih spent his later life working in the financial field and became the first generation of Taiwanese bankers. First worked as a local manager, Shih was promoted as the business manager of Cathay Life Insurance Cathay Life Insurance () is a life insurance company in Taiwan founded in 1962. Donggang, Pingtung
Donggang Township or Tungkang Township () is an urban township in west-central Pingtung County, Taiwan. Located on Taiwan's western coastline, along the Taiwan Strait, it has one of Taiwan's largest fishing harbors. Dapeng Bay with its national scenic area is just south of Donggang. The town also hosts Donglong Temple (), which is dedicated to "Lord Wen" (. The word Wen is pronounced the same as "plague" in both Hokkien and Mandarin Chinese) and is known for its triannual ceremony of "burning lord's boat" (burning plague boat). History Donggang was opened as a port by the Chinese admiral Koxinga in the 17th century. It was a major commercial port for Taiwan until the end of the 19th century. During Japanese rule, it was placed under Takao Prefecture as Tōkō town (東港街) and served the Japanese naval facilities in Dapeng Bay. Pingtung County
Pingtung () is a County (Taiwan), county located in southern Taiwan. It has a warm tropical monsoon climate and is known for its agriculture and tourism. The Kuomintang (KMT) is a major political party in the Republic of China (Taiwan).
