Sheshan
Sheshan, formerly known as Zose, is a pair of hills in Songjiang District in western Shanghai, China. The two hills are distinguished as East and , although the more important western hill is also called Sheshan on its own. East Sheshan has an elevation of and West Sheshan has an elevation of , it is the highest point in Shanghai, there is a small valley between them. The area around the two hills is a forest park. Basilica It is surmounted by the ''Our Lady of China'' Catholic church, Sheshan Basilica, which was built there between 1922 and 1936 following the establishment of a chapel in 1867, soon replaced by a first church in 1871-1873 by French missionaries. Services in the church are held in Latin. The road to the top of Sheshan hill represents the stations of the cross Via Dolorosa (The Way of Suffering) that Christ took to his crucifixion. Sheshan Basilica
The Sheshan Basilica, officially the National Shrine and Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Sheshan () and also known as Basilica of Mary, Help of Christians is a prominent Roman Catholic church in Shanghai. Its common name comes from its location on the western peak of Sheshan Hill, located in Songjiang District, to the west of Shanghai's metropolitan area. Pope Pius XII raised the Sheshan church to the rank of minor basilica via his pontifical decree “Compertum Habemus” on 12 September 1942. The shrine was previously romanized as Zosè Basilica (pronounced "''Zoh-seh''"), using the Shanghainese pronunciation of "" (Sheshan). Line 9, Shanghai Metro
Line 9 is a southwest-northeast line of the Shanghai Metro network. The line runs from in Songjiang District to in Pudong. The line is colored on system maps. History In the initial planning of Line 9, the entire line was from Fengjing to Chongming Island. Later, the plan to extend to Fengjing was cancelled, and the section to Chongming Island was changed to Chongming line. The first phase of Line 9, from to stations, opened on December 29, 2007. It uses the Bombardier Movia trains which were lended to line 1. Line 9 did not directly connect to the rest of the Shanghai Metro network until the opening of the Line 9 portion of the station on December 28, 2008. The station is an interchange between lines 3 and 4. A shuttle bus conveyed passengers between Guilin Road and Yishan Road stations until construction was completed. Sheshan Golf Club () is the first premier private golf club in Shanghai, China. Founded in 2004, the 18 hole golf course plays to a par of 72 and is designed by Nelson and Haworth Design, and spans over 7,266 yards (6,531 meters). Every year, the club plays host to the WGC-HSBC Champions, and is currently the only club to host the Championship. Songjiang District
Songjiang is a suburban district (formerly a county) of Shanghai. It has a land area of and a population of 1,582,398 (2010). Owing to a long history, Songjiang is known as the cultural root of Shanghai. Songjiang Town, the urban center of the district, was formerly the major city in the area. Sheshan Observatory
The Sheshan Observatory () is an observatory on Sheshan Hill in Shanghai. History It was built by French Jesuits around 1899 and is one of the oldest astronomical observatory in China (it also hosts one of China's oldest astronomical telescopes).
