Sherubtse College
Sherubtse College is the first accredited college in Bhutan, founded in 1966 by a group of Society of Jesus, Jesuits under the leadership of Father William Mackey (Jesuit), William Mackey. The college was affiliated to the University of Delhi by a special act of the Indian parliament. It became a part of the newly created Royal University of Bhutan in 2003, a system that comprises all public post-secondary schools in Bhutan. Departments Nearly 300 students graduate every year from the college. It offers courses such as Economics, Political Science and Sociology, Life Science, English language, English, Geography, Science, and many new courses are offered after rigorous changes in the college for more 21st-century learning. Kelly Dorji
Kalden Sonam Dorji (born 4 January 1971), known professionally as Kelly Dorji, is a Bhutanese actor, model, and artist who works primarily in Indian movies. Early life Dorji's father is Lynpo Paljor Dorji, widely known as Dasho Benji, the permanent advisor to Bhutan's National Environment Commission. His mother is Louise Dorji, an author of children's books and a founding member of Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS). Dorji attended St. Paul's School in Darjeeling and Sherubtse College in eastern Bhutan. He earned an honors degree in history at St. Xavier's College in Mumbai. Damcho Dorji (, born 23 June 1965) is a Bhutanese politician who served as Home Minister and Foreign Minister of Bhutan, in Tobgay cabinet from August 2013 to 2018. Early life and education Born in Khailo, Gasa in 1965, Dorji studied at Punakha High School and undertook his undergraduate studies at Sherubtse College in Trashigang. Ugyen Dorji () is a Bhutanese politician who was Minister for Labour and Human Resources from November 2018. and was the Minister for Home and Cultural Affairs since 2021 until 2023. Beyond The Sky And Earth
''Beyond the Sky and Earth'' or ''Beyond the Sky and the Earth: A Journey into Bhutan'' is a memoir written by Jamie Zeppa of her experience working as a lecturer in English at the Sherubtse College near Trashigang in eastern Bhutan. Zeppa took up an assignment for two years. Initially she started writing a fiction based on her experience there, but she was suggested to write it in memoir form and she took the advice. The book was first published in 1999. The title of the book is derived from an expression of thankfulness in the Bhutanese language which means "I am thankful to you beyond the earth and sky". ''Sky and Earth'' was on the Maclean's bestseller list. Jigme Dorji Wangchuck
Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (, ; 2 May 1928 – 21 July 1972) was the 3rd Druk Gyalpo of Bhutan. He began to open Bhutan to the outside world, began modernization, and took the first step towards democratization. Early life Jigme Dorji Wangchuck was born in 1928 in Thruepang Palace in Trongsa. At a young age, he was apprenticed in etiquette and leadership at the royal court of his father the King. Gedu, Bhutan
Gedu, also transliterated as Gaedu, is a town located in the Chukha District in south-western Bhutan. The Gaeddu College of Business Studies, Gedu College of Business Studies, one of the colleges of the Royal University of Bhutan, is located in Gedu. Population 4,288 (2005 census). Economy The economy is growing quickly largely due to the Tala Hydroelectric Project Authority (THPA) project which started in 1998, which saw substantial migration to Gedu, with thousands of workers looking for jobs.
