Sherrys
The Sherrys were an American girl group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, active briefly in the 1960s. The group came together in 1961 around Philadelphia singer Little Joe Cook, former lead singer of The Thrillers; it featured two of his daughters Delphine and Dinell Cook, his niece Charlotte Butler plus their cousin Dolores "Honey" Wiley-Sowell. The band also briefly featured Tammi Terrell, who later left the group, and went on to Motown. Initially they acted as a backup ensemble for local acts such as Bobby Rydell. In 1962, a dance craze called 'The Popeye' shot to popularity, and the group recorded the tune "Pop Pop Pop-Pie" (written by Johnny Madara and Dave White, both future bandmembers in The Spokesmen) in hopes of capitalizing on it. Lotta Hedlund
Charlotte Jean "Lotta" Hedlund (born Charlotte Jean Butler; March 10, 1944, later Charlotte Walker) is an American-Swedish singer who has been living in Sweden since the late 1960s. Life and career She started her career in the girl-group Sherrys. The Sherrys toured Sweden with Swedish rock singer Jerry Williams, and after one of the gigs they met up with Hep Stars, Sweden's most successful group of the 1960s. One of the members was Benny Andersson (later of ABBA fame), another was Sven "Svenne" Hedlund – and they later wed. She joined her husband by becoming a member of Hep Stars and later as a singer duo Svenne & Lotta in the 1970s, called " Sven & Charlotte" in certain countries. Svenne & Lotta
Svenne & Lotta (in some countries Sven & Charlotte) was a pop duo of Svenne Hedlund and Lotta Hedlund. They met in 1967, when (along with ABBA's Benny Andersson) Svenne Hedlund was the vocalist in the band Hep Stars. Charlotte Walker, which was Lotta Hedlund's name at that time, toured Sweden with the all-girl American trio The Sherrys. Tammi Terrell
Tammi Terrell (born Thomasina Winifred Montgomery; April 29, 1945 – March 16, 1970) was an American singer-songwriter, widely known as a star singer for Motown Records during the 1960s, notably for a series of duets with singer Marvin Gaye. Terrell's career began as a teenager, first recording for Scepter/Wand Records, before spending nearly nine months as a member of James Brown's Revue, recording for Brown's Try Me label. After a period attending college, Terrell recorded briefly for Checker Records, before signing with Motown in 1965. David Ernest White (November 26, 1939 – March 16, 2019), also known as David White Tricker, was an American singer and songwriter. He formed the doo-wop quartet Danny & the Juniors, as well as being a founding member of the pop trio The Spokesmen. Girl Group
A girl group is a music act featuring several female singers who generally harmonize together. The term "girl group" is also used in a narrower sense in the United States to denote the wave of American female pop music singing groups, many of whom were influenced by doo-wop and which flourished in the late 1950s and early 1960s between the decline of early rock and roll and start of the British Invasion. Svenne Hedlund
Sven Ove Hedlund (1 March 1945 – 3 December 2022) was a Swedish pop singer who was a member of the music group Idolerna. Hedlund sang in the Swedish bands Clifftones and Hep Stars in the 1960s. In 1968, the singer Charlotte Walker (born 1944) became a member of the band, and they formed the duo Svenne and Lotta (called "Sven and Charlotte" in several countries) the following year.
