Sherry Combs Johnson
Sherry Combs Johnson (August 16, 1938 – August 2, 2023) was an American ProRodeo Hall of Fame barrel racer. In 1962, she won the World Barrel Racing Championship at the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Fort Worth, Texas. Life Sherry Combs Johnson was born Sherry Price on August 16, 1938, in Duncan, Oklahoma. Combs and her ProRodeo Hall of Fame sister, Florence Youree, grew up on their father's ranch near Addington, Oklahoma. The sisters were the only children of rancher John Henry Price. Youree always said they worked on his ranch "as his boys". They had his love of horses and rodeo. Youree met Dale Youree as a teenager. Dale was a tie-down roper competing on the college circuit and the Rodeo Cowboy Association (later the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association). They got married in 1950. ProRodeo Hall Of Fame
The ProRodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of the American Cowboy was opened in August 1979 as a museum designed to "preserve the legacy of the cowboy contests, the heritage and culture of those original competitions, and the champions of the past, present and future." It is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and only inducts Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and Women's Professional Rodeo Association members. It is the "only museum in the world devoted exclusively to the sport of professional rodeo." Charmayne James
Charmayne James (born June 23, 1970) is an American former professional rodeo cowgirl who specialized in barrel racing. In her career, She won 11 Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) barrel racing world championships, the most in history. She won ten consecutive world championships from 1984 to 1993, and then a final one in 2002. She qualified for the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) 19 times and also won seven NFR barrel racing average titles in 1984, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1993, and 2002. James retired her horse, Gills Bay Boy, nicknamed Scamper, whom she won the bulk of her titles with, in 1993 after winning her tenth world championship. James herself would retire from barrel racing in 2002 after winning her 11th world championship. Scamper was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1996. The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is a museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States, with more than 28,000 Western and American Indian art works and artifacts. The facility also has the world's most extensive collection of American rodeo photographs, barbed wire, saddlery, and early rodeo trophies. Museum collections focus on preserving and interpreting the heritage of the American West. The museum becomes an art gallery during the annual Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition and Sale each June. The Prix de West Artists sell original works of art as a fund raiser for the museum. Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall Of Fame
The Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame is a museum and hall of fame in Fort Worth, Texas, dedicated to the sport of rodeo. History This hall of fame was founded by Johnny Boren. Also contributing to the foundation were a group of Belton, Texas, businessmen. At the time of the foundation, Boren was the manager of the Lone Star Circuit of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Boren was also a businessman and former bull rider. He founded the Old Timers Rodeo Association. They first located the hall of fame in several businesses in Belton lastly moving to the Bell County Expo Center. Star Plaudit (1948–c. 1970) nicknamed Red was a rodeo stock horse who excelled in steer wrestling and barrel racing. He was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2015.
