Sherman is a village in the town of Sherman, Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The village lies in the northern part of the town at intersections of county routes 15 and 18, NY-76, and NY-430. The population was 681 at the 2020 census. History The village of Sherman was incorporated in 1890. Sherman was named for Roger Sherman, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The first settler was Dearing Dorman. Mr. Peabody is an anthropomorphic cartoon dog who appeared in the late 1950s and early 1960s television animated series '' The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends'', produced by Jay Ward. Sherman Avenue is a collector road in the lower portion of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. It begins at the Niagara Escarpment ('The Mountain') just south of Cumberland Avenue and is a one-way street bisecting the industrialized northern neighbourhoods of the city. It ends at Ship Street — the site of Steel Company of Canada (Stelco). Upper Sherman Avenue is located on the top of escarpment, running roughly from North to South, starting from Concession Street to Rymal Road. It does not directly connect with Sherman Avenue below. The two Shermans are a former sideroad between lots 8 and 9 of the former Barton Township. The Sherman Cut is a rock cut through the brow of the escarpment. Fort Sherman
Fort Sherman is a former United States Army base in Panama, located on Toro Point at the Caribbean (northern) end of the Panama Canal, on the western bank of the Canal directly opposite Colón, Panama, Colón (which is on the eastern bank). It was the primary defensive base for the Caribbean sector of the Canal, and was also the center for US jungle warfare training for some time. Its Pacific-side partner was Fort Amador. Both bases were turned over to Panama in 1999. The Abbot Ice Shelf () is an ice shelf long and wide, bordering Eights Coast from Cape Waite to Pfrogner Point in Antarctica. Thurston Island lies along the northern edge of the western half of this ice shelf; other sizable islands (Sherman Island, Carpenter Island, Dustin Island, Johnson Island, McNamara Island, Farwell Island and Dendtler Island) lie partly or wholly within this shelf. Sherman is a ghost town in Albany County, Wyoming, United States. Sherman is southeast of Laramie in the Laramie Mountains and is named for Civil War and Indian Wars general William Tecumseh Sherman, purportedly at his request. From the 1860s to 1918, the town sat at the summit of the original grade of the first transcontinental railroad along the rails of the Union Pacific Railroad, at an elevation of . The Union Pacific construction crews had initially called the area Lone Tree Pass and Evans Pass. The original name honored James A. Evans, who surveyed the area searching for a shorter route through Wyoming compared to the earlier trails which crossed at South Pass.
