Sheriff Abas
Sheriff Manimbayan Abas (born May 5, 1979) is a Filipino lawyer who served as chairman of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) from 2017 to 2022, overseeing the 2018 barangay elections, the 2019 Bangsamoro autonomy plebiscite, and the 2019 general election. Aged 38 at his appointment, he is the youngest person and the first Muslim to serve as COMELEC chairman. Early life and education Sheriff M. Abbas was born on May 5, 1979. He attended the Notre Dame University in Cotabato City where he obtained a degree in philosophy in 1999. He finished his law studies at the Ateneo de Davao University in 2004 and passed the Philippine Bar Examinations the following year. Bangsamoro Basic Law
The Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL; ), also known as the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), and officially designated as Republic Act No. 11054, is a Philippine law that provided for the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Legislative efforts for the establishment of a Bangsamoro autonomous region was first proposed and deliberated upon by the 16th Congress of the Philippines but failed to pass into law. The issue was taken up once again in the 17th Congress. The legislation was ratified by both the Senate and the House of Representatives on July 23 and 24, 2018 respectively. 2025 Bangsamoro Parliament Election
The 2025 Bangsamoro Parliament election is scheduled to take place in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on October 13 under the Bangsamoro Organic Law, the charter of the autonomous region of the Philippines.
