Sheridan Gibney
Sheridan de Raismes Gibney (June 11, 1903 – April 12, 1988) was an American writer and producer in theater and film. He attended Amherst College and received an honorary M.A. from it. He later served as an instructor at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. He began in film in 1931, but tended to see himself more as a playwright. He received 2 Academy Awards for Best Screenplay and Best Story for The Story of Louis Pasteur, sharing the award with Pierre Collings. He particularly had a fondness for Restoration comedy. He would later become President of the Screen Writers Guild twice. As a member of the League of American Writers, he suffered from the Hollywood blacklist. The Hollywood blacklist was the mid-20th century banning of suspected Communists from working in the United States entertainment industry. The blacklisting, blacklist began at the onset of the Cold War and Red Scare#Second Red Scare (1947–1957), Red Scare, and affected entertainment production in Hollywood, Los Angeles, Hollywood, New York City, New York, and elsewhere. Actors, screenwriters, film director, directors, film score, musicians, and other professionals were barred from employment based on their present or past membership in, alleged membership in, or perceived sympathy with the Communist Party USA (CPUSA), or on the basis of their refusal to assist Congressional or FBI investigations into the Party's activities. Jack Lukeman (born Seán Loughman 11 February 1973), usually simply known as Jack L, is an Irish songwriter, musician, record producer, vocal artist and broadcaster. Early life Lukeman was born as Seán Loughman in St Vincent's Hospital, Athy; son of Seán Loughman, who was a mechanic, and his wife, Rose. Lukeman grew up in Bennetsbridge, near Athy, County Kildare. Lukeman attended a youth club in Athy known as Aontas Ogra at the age of 12 years old, where he was involved in artistic ventures as well as playing music there. He left school at 15. After spending a short period in the family business, he began playing music full-time at 18 cutting his teeth on the Bohemian busking scene around Europe in the early 90s. League Of American Writers
The League of American Writers was an association of American novelists, playwrights, poets, journalists, and literary critics launched by the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) in 1935. The group included Communist Party members, and so-called " fellow travelers" who closely followed the Communist Party's political line without being formal party members, as well as individuals sympathetic to specific policies being advocated by the organization. The League's policy objectives changed over time in accord with the shifting party line of the CPUSA. Beginning as an anti-fascist organization in 1935, the League turned to an anti-war position following the signing of the Nazi-Soviet Pact of 1939 and to a pro-war position after the German invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941. Screen Writers Guild
The Screen Writers Guild was an organization of Hollywood screenplay authors, formed as a union in 1933. A rival organisation, Screen Playwrights, Inc., was established by the AMPP, film studios and producers, but after an appeal to the National Labor Relations Board and a vote by eligible screenwriters, the Screenwriters Guild won out as the sole representative body. Its house publication was ''The Screen Writer''. In 1954, it became two different organizations: Writers Guild of America, West and the Writers Guild of America, East. Background and establishment Screenwriters' earliest attempts at organizing date back to the 1910s, when film scenarists participated in The Authors League of America (now the Authors Guild).
