Shenkeng, Taipei
Shenkeng District () is a rural district in central New Taipei City in northern Taiwan. Formerly an agricultural and mining town, it is now famous for its numerous tofu restaurants and vendors. History The area is first recorded as the preserve of a tribe of Pingpu aborigines during the Qing dynasty period in Taiwan. When Han Chinese farmers eventually moved in to develop the area, they bought the low-lying land from the aborigines and began cultivation in the main valley. The modern name of the township, Shenkeng, literally means ''deep pit'' or ''deep mine''. The area used to have several active coal mines. The name has also been explained with reference to the mountains surrounding Shenkeng on all sides, which make the terrain similar to a pit. Wenshan Line (TRTS)
The Wenhu or Brown line (code BR) is a metro line in Taipei operated by Taipei Metro, named after the districts it connects: Wenshan and Neihu. It is an automated medium-capacity rubber-tyred metro line and is long, serving a total of 24 stations located in 7 districts in Taipei, of which 22 are elevated and 2 underground. As of April 2022, the line transports an average of approximately 140,000 passengers daily. The Wenshan section began revenue service on 28 March 1996, as the Muzha line. The Neihu section began revenue service on 4 July 2009. The Wenhu line was then named the Muzha–Neihu line, colloquially shortened as the Zhahu line, until 8 October 2009, when it adopted the current name, short for Wenshan-Neihu line. Shenkeng Old Street
The Shenkeng Old Street () is an old street in Shenkeng District, New Taipei, Taiwan. History In the 1980s, local residents campaigned against the demolition of the buildings along the street as part of the proposed road widening and redevelopment project. In 2010, a large-scale restoration project began. The management committee of the old street was established in 2014. In 2013, a regulation regulating the management of the old streets in New Taipei was enacted, enabling the committee to collect funds to preserve the heritage buildings of the old street. Features The street is famous for its tofu-related food, such as tofu gourmet, tofu snacks and tofu popsicle from various types of tofu.
