Shelton Lock
Shelton Lock is a small suburb in the south of the city of Derby, England, United Kingdom, located between Chellaston and Allenton. The area gets its name from the lock on the Derby Canal that once ran through the area. The only traces of the canal's existence are seen in the form of a road bridge, the lock stones, and a cycle path which covers it. The canal was shut in the 1960s but there are plans to re-excavate it. The site of Fullen's Lock is located just a few hundred yards along the present-day cycle path from Shelton Lock bridge, and a children's playground close to the site still bears the name. Merrill College is the local secondary school. It was located on Jubilee Road but was demolished – the new Merrill College is in Allenton (the old Thomas Moore school). The A514 road is a road in Derbyshire, England. Route It is a stretch of single-carriageway road which runs south from Derby city centre . M64 Motorway
The United Kingdom's M64 motorway was planned during the 1970s to link the M6 at Stoke-on-Trent with the M1 near Castle Donington, by way of Uttoxeter and Derby. Its purpose would have been to allow traffic travelling from the south-east to the north-west to avoid the busy M6 around Birmingham. It was cancelled in 1976. During the 1990s, the A50 between Stoke and Derby was upgraded to dual carriageway instead, following roughly the same route as the middle section of the M64. However, instead of terminating on the M6, the new dual carriageway terminated deep inside the urban area of Stoke on the A500, and at the eastern end, it terminated on the M1 further north than originally planned. Meanwhile, the M6 Toll motorway was built to ease traffic congestion north of Birmingham. The "M64" number had previously been reserved for the Manchester motorway that opened as the M602 in 1971. Sinfin
Sinfin is a suburb of Derby, England, southwest of the city centre on its southern outskirts. The ward, which includes Osmaston as well as Sinfin itself, had a population of 15,128 in 2011. Historically, Sinfin and Osmaston were separate villages before being swallowed up by the expansion of Derby. Osmaston is characterised by inter-war housing developments while much of the housing in Sinfin is post-war. Background He was born in Sutton on the Hill, Derbyshire, the son of Charles Eaton (1819-1893) farmer of Etwall and Jane Morley (1822-1886).
