Rivière-au-Tonnerre, Quebec
Rivière-au-Tonnerre is a municipality in the Côte-Nord region of the province of Quebec in Canada. In addition to Riviere-au-Tonnerre itself, the communities within the municipality include Rivière-Pigou, Rivière-aux-Graines, and Sheldrake, all located along the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and accessible via Quebec Route 138. The main and almost exclusive local economic activity is crab fishing. A factory which processes the crab meat sustains the bulk of the population. The eponymous Thunder River (French: ''Riviere au Tonnerre''), which flows through the municipality, has a large series of waterfalls at from its mouth in the Saint Lawrence. Khalid Sheldrake
Khalid Sheldrake (1888–1947), originally Bertram "Bertie" William Sheldrake, was an English pickle manufacturer and philanthropist who later converted to Islam. In 1934, he was briefly declared king of the short-lived state of Islamestan in the Xinjiang region of China during the Warlord era. However, he never took power before the state's defeat. Early life Sheldrake was the son of Gosling Mullander Sheldrake (usually called "George"), a condiment manufacturer of southeast London. Sheldrake was raised a Roman Catholic but in 1903 he converted to Islam and changed his name to Khalid. In 1920 Sheldrake founded a journal called ''Britain and India''. He also founded the ''Muslim News Journal'' and was editor of a monthly magazine called ''The Minaret''. He was awarded an honorary doctorate of literature from Ecuador. The shelducks, most species of which are found in the genus ''Tadorna'' (except for the Radjah shelduck, which is now found in its own monotypic genus ''Radjah''), are a group of large birds in the Tadorninae subfamily of the Anatidae, the biological family that includes the ducks and most duck-like waterfowl such as the geese and swans. Cosmo Christopher Sheldrake is an English musician, composer, and producer. He is the son of parapsychologist Rupert Sheldrake and voice teacher Jill Purce, and the brother of biologist Merlin Sheldrake. He released his first single, "The Moss"/"Solar", in 2014 and followed it up with the ''Pelicans We'' EP in 2015. Alfred Rupert Sheldrake (born 28 June 1942) is an English author and parapsychology researcher who proposed the concept of morphic resonance, a conjecture which lacks mainstream acceptance and has been criticized as pseudoscience. Shelldrake, Michigan
Shelldrake is a ghost town in Whitefish Township, Chippewa County, Michigan, United States, about south of Whitefish Point, Michigan at the mouth of the Shelldrake River (also known as the Betsy River) on Whitefish Bay. It is listed on the Michigan Historic Register. Prior to European settlement it supported a seasonal Native American fishing village. In the 1890s and early 1900s, it was a thriving sawmill town during peak logging years on the Tahquamenon River watershed. By the 1920s repeated fires and the decline of lumbering led to its demise. Today it is a privately owned ghost town with only a few weathered, original buildings. Sheldrake Island
Sheldrake Island (french: l'Île aux Becs-Scies) is an island in New Brunswick, Canada, known for being the site of New Brunswick's first lazaretto. It is located only 8 miles from Chatham, on the Miramichi River. History The lazaretto was established in 1844, on the site of a cholera quarantine station from 1832. 44 lepers were landed on July 19, 1844, the majority being Acadians, from the Tracadie-Neguac area. The island also contained housing for typhus patients, but the lepers objected to this. The arrival of a ship from Ireland with many typhus and smallpox patients forced them to be moved to Middle Island. The Sheldrake River is a freshwater stream located in Southern Westchester County, New York. The river forms in White Plains and flows south until it joins the Mamaroneck River.
