Shelburne Stars
The Shelburne Stars were a junior ice hockey team based in Shelburne, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). Established in 2010, the team was originally known as the Shelburne Red Wings. They are also commonly known as the Shelburne HTI Stars due to a sponsorship agreement. History The Red Wings were formed in 2010 by Russian businessman Igor Vasilyev. The team was composed primarily of imported Russian hockey players. The Red Wings were the first junior hockey club in Shelburne since the Shelburne Wolves of the Metro Junior A Hockey League and Ontario Provincial League. On September 11, 2010, the Red Wings played their first game, a road game in Thornhill versus the Toronto Canada Moose. The Red Wings were victorious, 5–4. Shelburne (2021 population 8,994) is a town in Dufferin County, Ontario, Canada, is located at the intersection of Ontario Highway 10, Highway 10 and Ontario Highway 89, Highway 89. Shelburne hosts the Annual Canadian Championship Old Time Fiddling Contest that is held each August. History In the early 1860s, the founder of the town Shelburne, William Jelly, found his way through the bushes to choice lots in Melancthon, Ontario, Melancthon and built several cabins in the area. As Melancthon began developing in the late 1840s, the construction of the Toronto-Sydenham Road (now Ontario Highway 10, Highway 10) began and led to settlers moving into the Shelburne area in the 1860s. In 1865, William Jelly established the British Canadian Hotel. A post office was built shortly after, named after the Earl of Shelburne. Jim Aldred
James Aldred (born April 28, 1963) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former player. He played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, and was drafted 59th overall in the 1981 NHL entry draft, 1981 National Hockey League entry draft by the Buffalo Sabres. After four seasons combined in the American Hockey League and the International Hockey League (1945–2001), International Hockey League, he won an Eredivisie (ice hockey), Eredivisie championship in the Netherlands with the Nijmegen Tigers. Retiring due to injuries, Aldred turned to coaching four seasons in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League. Moving to Portugal in 2017, Aldred became head coach of the Portugal men's national ice hockey team which has competed at every IIHF Development Cup, Development Cup organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The Orangeville Ice Crushers were a Junior ice hockey, junior ice hockey team based in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Orangeville Americans were announced in the spring of 2011 with the roster to be composed of only American players. On September 12, 2011, the Americans played their first game at home against the Bradford Rattlers. The Rattlers won the game 5–2. During this game, the first Americans' goal was scored by 16-year-old Dominic Poya from Chicago. On September 19, the Americans won their first game 7–2 at home against the Shelburne Red Wings.
