Sheila Tinney
Sheila Christina Tinney (''née'' Power, 15 January 1918 – 27 March 2010) was an Irish mathematical physicist. Her 1941 PhD from the University of Edinburgh, completed under the supervision of Max Born in just two years, is believed to make her the first Irish-born and -raised woman to receive a doctorate in the mathematical sciences. was a Japanese theoretical physicist and the first Japanese Nobel laureate for his prediction of the pi meson, or pion. Biography He was born as Hideki Ogawa in Tokyo and grew up in Kyoto with two older brothers, two older sisters, and two younger brothers. He read the Confucian '' Doctrine of the Mean'', and later Lao-Tzu and Chuang-Tzu. His father, for a time, considered sending him to technical college rather than university since he was "not as outstanding a student as his older brothers". However, when his father broached the idea with his middle school principal, the principal praised his "high potential" in mathematics and offered to adopt Ogawa himself in order to keep him on a scholarly career. Vera Klute ARHA (born 1981) is a German multi-disciplinary artist based in Dublin, Ireland. Life Vera Klute was born in 1981 in Salzkotten, Germany. Klute moved to Ireland to attend Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology, graduating in 2006. She works in a variety of media, from portraiture to sculpture. Klute has had a number of solo exhibitions: Wexford Arts Centre (2009), Butler Gallery (2011), QSS Gallery (2014), the LAB and Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) Ashford (2014), and The Molesworth Gallery (2016). Hugh Tinney (born 1958) is an Irish pianist. Biography Tinney was a pupil at Gonzaga College, Dublin through the 1970s, and studied physics at Trinity College Dublin. In 1983 he won the first prize of the International Ettore Pozzoli Piano Competition in Seregno, Italy, and in 1984, the Paloma O'Shea Santander International Competition in Spain, to which he would return in 1990 as a jury member. He is also a laureate of the 9th Leeds Int. Competition. He debuted in the 1987 Proms, performing Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto along with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Harish-Chandra FRS (11 October 1923 – 16 October 1983) was an Indian American mathematician and physicist who did fundamental work in representation theory, especially harmonic analysis on semisimple Lie groups. Early life Harish-Chandra was born in Kanpur. He was educated at B.N.S.D. College, Kanpur and at the University of Allahabad. After receiving his master's degree in Physics in 1943, he moved to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore for further studies under Homi J. Bhabha. In 1945, he moved to University of Cambridge, and worked as a research student under Paul Dirac.
