Sheikh Othman
Sheikh Othman () is a district of the Aden Governorate, Yemen. As of 2003, the district had a population of 105,248 inhabitants. History Sheikh Othman derives its name from a religious shrine for Sheikh Othman Al-Zubairi Al-Wahki. The shrine is located in the original village of "Sheikh Al-Daweel". In 1880 the Government of Aden Colony Aden Colony () was a crown colony of the United Kingdom from 1937 to 1963 located in the southern part of modern-day Yemen. The Republic of Yemen is divided into twenty-one governorates ('' muhafazah'') and one municipality ( amanah): The governorates are subdivided into 333 districts (''muderiah''), which are subdivided into 1,996 sub-districts, and then into 40,793 villages and 88,817 sub villages (as of 2013). Before 1990, Yemen existed as two separate entities. Aden Governorate
Aden ( ) is a governorate of Yemen, including the city of Aden. At the 2004 census, it had a population of 589,419. The ancient capital, the port city of Crater, was located here. Aden was under British rule in the period from 1839 to 1967. In 1967, after years of struggle, Aden and other southern regions gained their independence. The city of Aden became the capital of South Yemen between 1967 and 1990. In 1990, both South Yemen and North Yemen combined to form the present Republic of Yemen. Aden is now the commercial capital of the Republic of Yemen. The archipelago of Socotra was part of the Governorate of Aden, but it was attached to Hadhramaut Governorate in 2004. On 6 December 2015, the governor of Aden, General Jaafar Mohammed Saad, was killed in a car bomb attack that also killed six members of his entourage. Several others were wounded. Aden (colony)
Aden Colony () was a crown colony of the United Kingdom from 1937 to 1963 located in the southern part of modern-day Yemen. It consisted of the port city of Aden and also included the outlying islands of Kamaran, Perim and the Khuria Muria archipelago with a total area of . Initially a key port for the British East India Company, it was annexed by the British in 1839 to secure maritime routes and prevent piracy in the Arabian Sea. Its strategic position at the entrance to the Red Sea made it a vital stopover for ships traveling between Europe, India, and the Far East, especially after the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. Aden quickly became a major coaling station and transit hub for British shipping, and its significance to the British Empire grew throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries.
