Sheer Elegance
Sheer Elegance was a British pop/soul trio, comprising Dennis Robinson, Bev Gordon (ex-Earthquake, aka Little Henry) and Herbie Watkins, who appeared on the British television talent show ''New Faces'' in 1975. Background The group had the distinction of writing their own material. During the course of their career, they appeared on ''New Faces'', supported The Supremes when the group came to the UK and in aid of the Migraine Trust, they performed for Princess Margaret at the London Palladium. They recorded for the Pye label. Career Their first single, "Going Downtown", was a flop, but their second single, "Milky Way", reached number 18 in the UK Singles Chart early in 1976. The group had a follow-up single released in 1976. It was "Life Is Too Short Girl". It was more successful than the previous, reaching number 9 and spending nine weeks in the chart. Pye Records
PYE or Pye Records is an independent British record label. It was first established in 1955 and played a major role in shaping rock 'n' roll and pop music history. The Pye name was dropped in 1980 due to trademark issues, after which it produced almost no music until the company name and trademark was acquired by the Scottish broadcaster and music producer Tony Currie (broadcaster), Tony Currie in September 2024. New Faces
''New Faces'' is a British television talent show that aired in the 1970s and 1980s. It has been hosted by Leslie Crowther, Derek Hobson and Marti Caine. It was produced for the ITV network by ATV, and later by Central. Original series: 1973–1978 The show first aired as a pilot on the ATV network on 31 May 1973 with host Leslie Crowther and a judging panel consisting of Noele Gordon, Tony Hatch, Clive James and John Smith assessing performances from ten acts looking for a break in show business. Welsh singer Jennifer Jones won the show that also featured a man who blew up a hot water bottle until it burst followed by a few choruses of " Spanish Eyes". "Saturday Nite" is a song by R&B band Earth, Wind & Fire which was issued as a single in 1976 by Columbia Records. The song reached numbers 4 and 21 on ''Billboard'' Hot Soul Songs and Hot 100 charts, respectively.
