Sheepshead Bay High School
Sheepshead Bay High School is a defunct public high school in Brooklyn, New York City, New York (state), New York. Closed in 2016, the building currently operates as Frank J. Macchiarola Educational Complex, housing several smaller high schools. History Sheepshead Bay High School was a large, multi-cultural high school in Brooklyn, New York City that closed in 2016. SBHS opened in 1959, welcoming ninth to twelfth grade students. The first graduating class was 1961. When the school opened there were no juniors or seniors and the sophomores were the senior class for three years. Closure On March 12, 2013, the New York City Department of Education's New York City Panel for Educational Policy, Panel For Educational Policy voted to approve plans to phase out Sheepshead Bay High School and introduce four new schools. Dov Markus (born January 31, 1946) is an Israeli-American former soccer player. At Long Island University he was the first recipient of the Hermann Trophy, as the outstanding collegiate soccer player of the year, and was a two-time All American. In 1965 as a sophomore, Markus scored 35 goals in 14 games for 70 points, at the time both the most-ever goals and the most-ever points in an NCAA season. Over his three-year career, Markus scored 79 goals, setting a new NCAA career record, in 49 games. Markus played a season with the New York Generals of the North American Soccer League, and played in the 1969 Maccabiah Games in Israel for the United States. Gene Pritsker (born 1971) is a composer, guitarist, rapper and record producer living in New York City. He moved to the United States with his family in 1978 and lived in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. He attended the Manhattan School of Music from 1990 to 1994 where he studied composition with Giampaolo Bracali. While attending Manhattan School of Music he co-founded the Absolute Ensemble with Kristjan Järvi and formed Sound Liberation, which has released CDs on Col-legno, Composers Concordance Records and Innova Recordings. He played for Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israel Basketball Premier League from 1969 to 1977, and for the Israeli national basketball team.
