Sheenagh Pugh
Sheenagh Pugh (born 20 December 1950) is a British poet, novelist and translator who writes in English. Her book, ''Stonelight'' (1999) won the Wales Book of the Year award. Pugh was born in Birmingham. She was a creative writer educator at the University of Glamorgan until her retirement. She has written several poetry collections, and two novels. She has also written ''The Democratic Genre: fan fiction in a literary context'' (2005), a literary study of fan fiction. Life Pugh was born in Birmingham. She studied languages at the University of Bristol. She now lives in Shetland but lived for many years in Cardiff and taught creative writing at the University of Glamorgan until retiring in 2008. Her collection of poetry, ''Stonelight'' (1999) won the Wales Book of the Year award in 2000. She has twice won the Cardiff International Poetry Competition. Jan Janszoon
Jan Janszoon van Haarlem, commonly known as Reis Mourad the Younger (c. 1570 – c. 1641), was a Dutch pirate who later became a Barbary corsair in the Regency of Algiers and the Republic of Salé. After being captured by Algerian corsairs off Lanzarote in 1618, he converted to Islam and changed his name to Mourad. He became one of the most famous of the 17th-century Barbary corsairs. Together with other corsairs, he helped establish the independent Republic of Salé at the city of that name, serving as the first President and Commander. He also served as Governor of Oualidia. Early life Jan Janszoon van Haerlem was born in Haarlem in 1570, in Holland, then a province ruled by the Habsburg monarchy. The Eighty Years War between Dutch rebels and the Spanish Empire under King Philip II had started seven years before his birth; it lasted all his life. Little is known about his early life. Welsh writing in English, (previously Anglo-Welsh literature) is a term used to describe works written in the English language by Welsh writers. The term 'Anglo-Welsh' replaced an earlier attempt to define this category of writing as 'Anglo-Cymric'. The form 'Anglo-Welsh' was used by Idris Bell in 1922 and revived by Raymond Garlick and Roland Mathias when they renamed their literary periodical ''Dock Leaves'' as '' The Anglo-Welsh Review'' and later further defined the term in their anthology ''Anglo-Welsh Poetry 1480-1980'' as denoting a literature in which "the first element of the compound being understood to specify the language and the second the provenance of the writing".
