Jennifer Shay
Jennifer Mary Shay, (March 27, 1930 – May 7, 2018), was a Canadian academic and ecologist. Born in Hull, England, the daughter of Frank and Kathleen Walker, she received a Bachelor of Science from the University of London in 1952. After moving to Canada in 1957, she completed her Master of Science in 1959 and her Doctor of Philosophy in Science in 1964 from the University of Manitoba. In 1965, she became an assistant professor, promoted to associate professor in 1967, and full professor in 1975. Gene Shay
Gene Shay (born Ivan Shaner; March 4, 1935 – April 17, 2020) was an American radio personality. Shay was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to a Jewish family and was a representative of the city's folk music scene. He produced weekly folk radio shows since 1962 (now on WXPN and his final show on WXPN was on February 1, 2015; previously heard on WDAS-FM, WMMR, WIOQ and WHYY-FM). A founder of the annual Philadelphia Folk Festival and its emcee since its inception, he has been called the "Dean of American folk DJs" by '' The Philadelphia Daily News'' and "The Grandfather of Philadelphia Folk Music" by '' The Philadelphia Inquirer''. Ephraim Shay
Ephraim Shay (July 17, 1839 – April 19, 1916) was an American merchant, entrepreneur and self-taught railroad engineer who worked in the state of Michigan. He designed the first Shay locomotive and patented the type. He licensed it for manufacture through what became known as Lima Locomotive Works in Ohio; from 1882 to 1892 some 300 locomotives of this type were sold. Early life and military service Ephraim Shay was born on July 17, 1839, in Sherman Township, Huron County, Ohio. His parents were James and Phoebe (Probasco) Shay, whose families went back to colonial New York. His parents were of majority-English descent, with some Dutch and Polish ancestry. Dorothy Shay (April 11, 1921 – October 22, 1978) was an American popular comedic recording artist in the late 1940s and early 1950s, who later became a character actress. She was known as the " Park Avenue Hillbillie". Early life Shay was born Dorothy Sims in Jacksonville, Florida. When she began her career as a 'straight' singer, she took vocal lessons to lose her Southern accent. She sang for the USO during World War II. Art Shay (March 31, 1922 – April 28, 2018) was an American photographer and writer. Biography Born in 1922, Shay grew up in the Bronx and then served as a navigator in the U.S. Army Air Forces in World War II, during which he flew 52 bomber missions. Shay joined the staff of ''Life'' magazine as a writer, and quickly became a Chicago-based freelance photographer for ''Life'', ''Time'', ''Sports Illustrated'', and other national publications. Anthony Shay is a dancer and choreographer specializing in dances from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia. In 50 years of work he has created over 200 choreographies. Shay created and directed several dance groups: ''Village Dancers'', ''AMAN Folk Ensemble'' (AMAN International Music and Dance Company, Los Angeles, California, 1963–1977), and ''AVAZ International Dance Theatre'' (since 1977). Seamus "Shay" Keogh (6 September 1934 – 13 April 2020) was an Irish footballer who played as a centre half. He was part of the great Shamrock Rovers teams of the 1950s in a side, popularly known as Coad's Colts, that enjoyed many memorable days during that decade.
