Shawlands Athletic F.C.
Shawlands Athletic Football Club was a Scottish football team, based in Pollokshaws, now part of Glasgow (at the time a separate burgh). History The club was founded in March 1880 and joined the Scottish Football Association five months later. It only played one season in senior football, 1880–81, but, thanks to the luck of the draw, went some way into the two major competitions it was entitled to enter - the Scottish Cup and Renfrewshire Cup. In the former, the club gained walkovers against both Clydesdale and Possil Bluebell to reach the third round, where the club was drawn to visit Clyde. As the Thursday before the third round tie was Glasgow fast-day, the club visited the Vale of Teith club in Doune for a warm-up match, losing 1–0. Two days later the Athletic lost 4–0 at Clyde in a "very pleasant" game, Sloan scoring a hat-trick. Greenock (; sco, Greenock; gd, Grianaig, ) is a town and administrative centre in the Inverclyde council area in Scotland, United Kingdom and a former burgh within the historic county of Renfrewshire, located in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. William Anderson (Scottish Footballer)
William Anderson (born 25 April 1862) was a Scottish footballer who played as a right winger. He played club football for Queen's Park and appeared in the sides that won the Scottish Cup in 1881, 1882 and 1884, and finished as runners-up in the English FA Cup in 1884 and 1885. He made his international debut for Scotland on 11 March 1882 and went on to play six matches in the next three years, never ending on the losing side. The 1881–82 Scottish Cup – officially the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup – was the ninth season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. A total of 147 teams entered the competition, five more than the previous record set in 1879–80. For the second season in a row, defending champions Queen's Park played Dumbarton in the final. After the original match finished in a 2–2 draw on 18 March 1882, Queen's Park won the trophy for a sixth time with a 4–1 win in the replay 1 April 1882. Calendar As with the previous competitions, the eighth edition of the Scottish Cup took on the format of a traditional knockout tournament.
