''Shavam: The Corpse'' is a 2015 Indian Malayalam-language experimental black-comedy film, written and directed by Don Palathara, in his feature directorial debut. The film was shot entirely in black-and-white. It was released on 28 November 2015. Background Shavam is the brainchild of an Indian Australian who used to be a closely associated member of Kazcha Film Society. Don, an enthusiastic documentarian who had worked previously with Cinemavandi, re-discovered scope of art films from his international perspective. The director reveals that film aspects like the black and white picturization was to give the audience an opportunity to look at different parts of the screen at the same time, and methods such as color grading and the morbidity and lifelessness of the title was chosen for aesthetic aspects. Don Palathara
Don Palathara (born 22 August 1986) is an Indian filmmaker from Kerala. Known for working on small budgets, his films are expositions of local Kerala culture and studies on human nature. Palathara's films have gained accolades at several international film festivals, including those of Moscow International Film Festival, Moscow, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Rotterdam and International Film Festival of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. Early life Don Palathara was born in Karunapuram, Idukki district, Kerala. Sandeep Kurissery (sometimes credited Sandeep Madhavam) (born 29 March 1982) is an Indian film sound designer, sound editor and location sound recordist. He, along with Jiji P Joseph won the first ever award for location sound recording for the film Oraalppokkam in the 2014 Kerala State Film Awards. The duo won the award again in 2015 with Ozhivudivasathe Kali.
