is a 1987 film directed by Tonino Valerii. Production ''Shatterer'' was produced with Japanese funding. Producer Asao Kumada got in contact with director Tonino Valerii after being suggested to him by Peter Shepherd. Shepherd had previously met with Valerii on the set of '' The Best of Enemies'' and again on ''Day of Anger'' where he was Giuliano Gemma's dialogue coach. Valerii did not like Kumada's story for the film involving the mafia taking over a nearly bankrupt steel mill that is saved by a Japanese team. Valerii stated that it was absurd for the mafia to attempt to take over a company that was at a loss and read about a car engine that would work for less fuel was being tested on and suggested Kumada to make a story about that. Valerii stated that "it was an unlikely story, but it worked well in Japan." Beatrice Ring was cast in the film, but was not the first choice for the role. Tonino Valerii
Tonino Valerii (20 May 1934 – 13 October 2016) was an Italian film director, most known for his Spaghetti Westerns. Tonino (Antonio) Valerii started his film career as an assistant director on Sergio Leone's ''A Fistful of Dollars'', before moving on to direct by himself. Among his best-known films are '' Day of Anger'' (1967) '' The Price of Power'' (1969), '' A Reason to Live, a Reason to Die'' (1972) and '' My Name Is Nobody'' (1973), starring Henry Fonda and Terence Hill. In 1970, he directed ''A Girl Called Jules'', which was entered into the 20th Berlin International Film Festival. Ernesto Gastaldi (born 10 September 1934) is an Italian screenwriter. Film historian and critic Tim Lucas described Gastaldi as the first Italian screenwriter to specialize in horror and thriller films. Gastaldi worked within several popular genres including ''pepla'', Western and spy films. Biography Ernesto Gastaldi was born on 10 September 1934 in Graglia in the province of Province of Biella, Piedmont. Gastaldi left his job as a clerk at the Sella bank in Biella to move to Rome where he was admitted into Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. After graduating, Gastaldi had trouble finding work. In 1957, Gastaldi wrote his first science fiction novel which the publishers requested an English-language name for the cover.
