Shash Appan
Shash Appan is a Welsh LGBT+ and anti-racist activist. A co-founder of Trans Aid Cymru, she also serves as a director of the Trans Safety Network. She has also advocated for tenant rights, co-founding a website for tenants in Cardiff to anonymously rate their landlords. Early life and education Appan is of Indian descent, and grew up in Birmingham. She came out to her parents at the age of 18 but they were not accepting. After she made a suicide attempt they had her sectioned, then sent her to live in isolation with her grandparents in India for two years, before persuading them to let her return to Britain. After a period of homelessness, Appan received an offer to study computer science at Cardiff Metropolitan University and moved to the city. Media Wales Ltd. is a publishing company based in Cardiff, Wales. As of 2009 it was owned by Reach plc (formerly known as the Trinity Mirror Group). It was previously known as the Western Mail & Echo Ltd. History The ''Western Mail'' was founded in 1869 by the 3rd Marquess of Bute as a Conservative newspaper. Trans Aid Cymru
Trans Aid Cymru is a mutual aid organisation based in Wales, that aims to support transgender, intersex, and non-binary people in Wales with grants and local events. History Trans Aid Cymru was founded in June 2020 after a protest was held outside Cardiff Castle, in response to the UK Conservative government scrapping reform of the Gender Recognition Act. Originally named the "South Wales Trans and NonBinary Mutual Aid Fund" (SWTN Mutual Aid), the organisation rebranded to Trans Aid Cymru in 2021. Since its formation, Trans Aid Cymru has provided transgender community in Wales with financial grants. Initially this was to support transgender people who lost work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Trans Pride Flag
The transgender flag, also called the transgender pride flag, is used by people, organizations and communities to represent pride, diversity, rights and/or remembrance within the transgender community. Its usage is similar to the original rainbow flag but specific to the transgender community. It was designed in 1999 by Monica Helms and has since been adopted by the transgender community around the world. The design features five horizontal stripes of three colors in the order light blue, light pink, white, light pink, and light blue. There are related flags as well, including ones which combine the "progress" version of the rainbow flag with the transgender and intersex flags, as well as various flags for niches within the transgender and non-binary communities. Helen Mary Jones
Helen Mary Jones (born 29 June 1960) is a Welsh Plaid Cymru politician, who was a member of the Senedd from 1999 to 2011 and again from 2018 to 2021. Background Jones was born in Colchester, Essex. She was educated at Colchester County High School for Girls, Caereinion High School in Powys and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where she was awarded an honours degree in history and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. She has taught in the special education field and has held various positions in youth, community and social work.
