The Whites are an American country music vocal group from Fort Worth, Texas, United States. They consist of sisters Sharon White and Cheryl White, and, until his death, their father, Buck White. Sharon plays guitar, Cheryl is the bassist and Buck played the mandolin. Formed in 1972, the trio has recorded multiple albums and charted multiple songs on the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Songs chart. They are also known as frequent collaborators of country and bluegrass musician Ricky Skaggs, who is Sharon's husband. Overview The Whites consist of Sharon White (born December 17, 1953), her sister Cheryl (born January 27, 1955), and their father Buck (December 13, 1930 – January 13, 2025). Dame Sharon Michele White, Lady Chote, (born 21 April 1967) is a British businesswoman who served as the sixth Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership, having previously held a variety of roles in the Civil Service. She was the chief executive of the British media regulator Ofcom from March 2015 to November 2019, and was second permanent secretary at HM Treasury from 2013 to 2015. She was the first black person, and the second woman, to become a permanent secretary at the Treasury. Early life White was born in east London and brought up in Leyton, where she attended Connaught School for Girls for three years when it was a middle school followed by Leyton Senior High School for Girls. Her parents migrated to the UK from Jamaica in the 1950s, when her father was aged 15 and her mother 11.
