In the Unix operating system, shar (from "shell archive") is an archive format created with the Unix shar utility. A shar file is a type of self-extracting archive, because it is a valid shell script, and executing it will recreate the files. To extract the files, only the standard Unix Bourne shell ''sh'' is usually required. shar files are also sometimes called "sharchives" (from "/bin/sh archive"). Note that the shar command is not specified by the Single Unix Specification, so it is not formally a component of Unix, but a legacy utility. Charsk () or Shar () is a town in Zharma District in Abai Region of eastern Kazakhstan. Name Charsk is located at the left bank of the Shar River, a left tributary of the Irtysh. Matochkin Strait or Matochkin Shar () is a strait, structurally a fjord, between the Severny and Yuzhny Islands of Novaya Zemlya. It connects the Barents Sea and the Kara Sea. Yugorsky Strait
The Yugorsky Strait or Yugor Strait (, or Yugorsky Shar) is a narrow sound between the Kara Sea and the Pechora Sea. Its maximum width is 10 km and its minimum width only 3 km. Ostrov Storozhevoy, an island 1.6 km in length, lies in the middle of the strait. This sound separates Vaygach Island from the Yugorsky Peninsula on the Russian mainland.
