Shannon Jones Isadore is an American politician, psychotherapist, and healthcare clinic executive. A member of the Democratic Party, she has represented the 33rd district in the Oregon House of Representatives since September 2024. Early life and education Isadore was raised in Portland and grew up in the Albina district. She received her bachelor's degree from Clark Atlanta University and her master's degrees from Loma Linda University. She is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Career Isadore previously worked as an investment broker. She is the founder of the Oregon Change Clinic. The clinic is focused on substance abuse recovery and specializes in working with African Americans and veterans in Portland. The Oregon Change Clinic operates a 37-bed mental health and drug facility in Portland's Lloyd District. Oregon's 33rd House District
District 33 of the Oregon House of Representatives is one of 60 House legislative districts in the state of Oregon. As of 2021, the boundary for the district contains portions of Multnomah County, Oregon, Multnomah and Washington County, Oregon, Washington counties. The district includes parts of downtown Portland, Oregon, Portland as well as most of the northwestern part of the city, including Forest Park (Portland, Oregon), Forest Park. The Lloyd District is a primarily commercial neighborhood in the North and Northeast sections of Portland, Oregon, United States. It is named after Ralph Bramel Lloyd (1875–1953), a California rancher, oilman, and real estate developer who moved to and was an early commercial developer for the area in 1905. Description and history The Lloyd District is bounded by the Willamette River on the west, NE Broadway on the north, NE 18th Ave. on the east, and Interstate 84 on the south. Adjacent neighborhoods are Eliot and Irvington to the north, Sullivan's Gulch (with which it slightly overlaps) on the east, Kerns on the south, and Old Town Chinatown (via the Steel and Broadway bridges over the Willamette) to the west. African Americans in Oregon or Black Oregonians are residents of the state of Oregon who are of African American ancestry. In 2017, there were an estimated 91,000 African Americans in Oregon. History Black people likely began arriving in Oregon in the 1500s as free and enslaved passengers of English and Spanish ships. The first confirmed presence of a person of African descent in Oregon is Marcus Lopius, a crew member from Cape Verde aboard the American ship ''Lady Washington'' that reached Oregon in 1788. An enslaved man known as York (explorer), York came to Oregon in 1803 as part of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Other early Black explorers came overland to Oregon as free trappers or as laborers for John Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Company and the British Hudson Bay Company. Katherine Brown (born June 21, 1960) is an American politician and attorney who served as the 38th governor of Oregon from 2015 to 2023. During the latter half of the 20th century, Albina was home to the majority of Portland’s African American population.
