Shankar Laad
Shankar Vishveshwar Laad (14 August 1940 – 1 April 2016) was an Indian politician from Goa who served as the state's Law Minister in the cabinet of Chief Minister Shashikala Kakodkar from 1977 to 1979. Early life Shankar Vishveshwar Laad was born on 14 August 1940 in Vasco da Gama, Portuguese Goa. He studied at the St. Joseph's Institute, Vasco. He later studied B. Com. and L. L. B. at Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce, Pune. Early political career Laad was President of the Marmagao Municipal Council from 6 October 1976 to 11 July 1977. Further, he was a member of the Jaycees in Vasco and later became its President in 1976. Member of Legislative Assembly Laad was elected to the Goa Legislative Assembly during the fourth term (1977–1979). Vasco Da Gama, Goa
Vasco da Gama (), often shortened to Vasco, is a city in the state of Goa on the west coast of India. It is named after the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama. It is sometimes also referred to as Sambhaji Nagar after Sambhaji. It is the headquarters of the Mormugão taluka (subdistrict). Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party ( MGP) is a political party in India. It was Goa's first ruling party after the end of Portuguese rule in Goa in 1961. The party has its base amongst non-Brahmin Hindu migrants from Maharashtra and their descendants, a group that made up a large section of the poorer residents in Goa during Portuguese rule in Goa and whose numbers increased after 1961 by mass immigration from Maharashtra at the invitation of MGP politicians. Shashikala Kakodkar
Shashikala Kakodkar (7 January 1935 – 28 October 2016), also known as ''Tai'' (), was an Indian politician and a leader of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP). She served as the Chief Minister of Goa, Daman and Diu on two occasions, and was the president of the MGP. She is the first and only woman to serve as the Chief Minister of Goa, Daman and Diu. Early life and background Shashikala Kakodkar was born on 7 January 1935 at Pernem, Goa, Portuguese India, to Dayanand Bandodkar, Dayanand and Sunandabai Bandodkar as their eldest child.
