Shanice Marcelle
Shanice Marcelle (born May 28, 1990) is a Canadian female volleyball player and head coach for the Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team. She is a five-time U Sports women's volleyball championship, CIS volleyball champion as a university athlete and two-time Deutsche Volleyball-Bundesliga, Bundesliga champion as a professional athlete. Individually, she was twice awarded the Mary Lyons Award, CIS women's volleyball player of the year in 2011 and 2013, was the 2011 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship, 2011 CIS volleyball championship MVP, and was named the 2013 winner of the BLG Awards, BLG Award as the best female athlete in all of U Sports, Canadian Interuniversity Sport. BLG Awards
The Lois and Doug Mitchell U Sports Athletes of the Year Awards, formerly known as the Lieutenant Governor Athletic Awards, Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG) Awards, and Howard, Mackie Awards, are given annually to top male and female athletes in Canadian universities that are members of U Sports. Each of the 56 member schools nominate a female and male athlete of the year which are further narrowed down to representatives from each of the four athletics conference of U Sports (Atlantic University Sport, Canada West Universities Athletic Association, Ontario University Athletics, and Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec). The 2013 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship was held February 28, 2013 to March 2, 2013, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, to determine a national champion for the 2012–13 CIS women's volleyball season. The tournament was played at the Univestrie Pavilion at the Université de Sherbrooke. It was the second time that Sherbrooke had hosted the tournament with the first time occurring in 1988. The gold medal match featured a rematch of the previous year's final, which had not occurred since the 1995 and 1996 games between the Pandas and the Rouge et Or. The 2012 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship was held March 2, 2012 to March 4, 2012, in Hamilton, Ontario, to determine a national champion for the 2011–12 CIS women's volleyball season. The tournament was played at the Burridge Gymnasium at McMaster University. It was the second time that McMaster had hosted the tournament with the first time occurring in 1979. The second-seeded UBC Thunderbirds won their fifth consecutive national championship in their five-set win over the top-seeded Alberta Pandas. The gold medal game was a rematch of the Canada West finals that had also gone to five sets, but eventually was won by the Pandas. The Manitoba Bisons are the athletic teams that represent the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The 2010 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship was held March 5, 2010 to March 7, 2010, in Edmonton, Alberta, to determine a national champion for the 2009–10 CIS women's volleyball season. The tournament was played at the University of Alberta's Main Gym. It was the fifth time that the University of Alberta had hosted the tournament with the first four taking place over a five-year span from 1995 to 1999. The 2009 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship was held February 26, 2009 to February 28, 2009, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, to determine a national champion for the 2008–09 CIS women's volleyball season. The tournament was played at the Aitken University Centre and was hosted by the University of New Brunswick.
