Xia Yan (playwright)
Xia Yan (; 30 October 1900 – 6 February 1995) was a Chinese playwright and screenwriter, and the People's Republic of China's Deputy Minister of Culture between 1954 and 1965. Among the dozens of plays and screenplays penned by Xia Yan, the most renowned include ''Under the Eaves of Shanghai'' (1937) and ''The Fascist Bacillus'' (1944). Today the Xia Yan Film Literature Award is named in his honor. Personal life Xia entered Zhejiang Industrial School ( , a technical school of Zhejiang University) in 1915, five years before being sent to study in Japan. He was forced to return in 1927, two years after graduating with an engineering degree. Huang Zuolin
Huang Zuolin (; October 24, 1906 – June 1, 1994) was a Chinese film director. Life Huang Zuolin whose ancestral home was at Panyu, Guangdong Province, was born in Tianjin. He graduated from Tientsin Anglo-Chinese College in 1925. During the period of 1925 to 1929, he studied business in University of Birmingham and lived in Linxi College located in the suburbs. At the party organized by the students of this college, Huang Zuolin performed the one-act play, East and West, which was written and directed by himself. Xiong Foxi (; 1900 − 26 October 1965) was an American-educated Chinese playwright famous for his experimental drama in the Ding County, Hebei Province (1932–37). His ambition was creating the peasants' drama of educative value.
