Shams Pir
Shams Pir () is an island village near Thatta, Pakistan, along the western end of Thatta Harbour, close to Sandspit Beach and Kakapir. It is administered as part of the Thtta West district. Approximately 5,000 people now live on the island. The village is bordered by thick Mangrove forests which grow in the harbor. Shams Pir is named for a Mazar (shrine) of a saint named Hazrat Sham Pir which located on the island. Shams Pir is an old village which, like Bhit Shah Island and Baba Island, predates the formal establishment of Karachi. Residents from Baba and Bhit islands helped settle Shams Pir. During the British era, some residents of Mithadar and Kharadar were settled in Shams Pir during construction of the Port of Karachi. Some of those residents moved further west and established the fishing village of Kakapir. Kiamari Town
Keamari Town ( ur, ) lies in the southern part of the city that was named after the historic seaside municipality of Keamari. Kemari Town was formed in 2001 as part of The Local Government Ordinance 2001, and was subdivided into 11 union councils. The town system was disbanded in 2011, and Kemari Town was re-organized as part of Karachi West District in 2015. In 2020, Keamari District was carved out from Karachi West District. So Kemari Town ended up being part of Kemari District. Location Kemari Town comprised the western parts of Karachi, including the Port of Karachi and an extensive coastline of sandy beaches, small islands and Mangrove forests. Baba Island
Baba and Bhit Islands ( ur, ) are two small and densely populated islands located in the Karachi Harbour, in Karachi, Pakistan. The approximate area of the islands is 4 km² and the population is about 25,000. The islands are connected to Karachi via a ferry service to Keamari. The islands, along with Shams Pir, are old fishing villages in the harbor which predate the formal establishment of Karachi. It is claimed that the two islands are over 400 years old. Mangrove
A mangrove is a shrub or tree that grows in coastal saline or brackish water. The term is also used for tropical coastal vegetation consisting of such species. Mangroves are taxonomically diverse, as a result of convergent evolution in several plant families. They occur worldwide in the tropics and subtropics and even some temperate coastal areas, mainly between latitudes 30° N and 30° S, with the greatest mangrove area within 5° of the equator. Mangrove plant families first appeared during the Late Cretaceous to Paleocene epochs, and became widely distributed in part due to the movement of tectonic plates. The oldest known fossils of mangrove palm date to 75 million years ago. Mangroves are salt-tolerant trees, also called halophytes, and are adapted to live in harsh coastal conditions. Kakapir
Kakapir ( ur, ) is a fishing village in Karachi Harbour, 15 kilometers to the west of Karachi, Pakistan. It is located at the western end of Sandspit Beach, near Hawke's Bay Beach. Mauripur lies to its north. Kakapir is named for a saint, whose shrine is located in the village, who reportedly was known for his brown hair. "Kaka" is the local word for brown, while "Pir" means saint. The village is reportedly about 100 years old. Residents of the village were originally from the Mithadar and Kharadar neighborhoods of Karachi, who were settled by the British in Shams Pir during the construction of the Port of Karachi. Those residents migrated further west and established Kakapir. Sandspit Beach
Sandspit Beach is a beach located in south west of Karachi, Sindh Sindh (; ; ur, , ; historically romanized as Sind) is one of the four provinces of Pakistan.
