Shamator is a town and the headquarters of the Shamator district in the Indian state of Nagaland. Shamator was declared district headquarter of newly formed district by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio after understanding between Tikhir Tribal Council and Yimkhiung Tribal Council. Shamator District
Shamator District is the 16th district of the Indian state of Nagaland. It was created on 19 January 2022 and was officially inaugurated on 4 March 2022. The district headquarter is located in the town of Shamator. History Shamator District was created on 19 January 2022 as the 16th district of Nagaland. The new district has the same boundaries as the former Shamator sub-division of Tuensang District. Demographics According to the 2011 census of India the then Shamator circle of Tuensang District had a population of 12,726. Shamator circle had a sex ratio of 988 females per 1000 males and a literacy rate of 66.25%. Scheduled Tribes make up 99.03% of the population. Tuensang District
Tuensang District (Pron:/ˌtjuːənˈsæŋ/) is the largest district in Nagaland, a state in North-East India. Its headquarters is in Tuensang town. History Tuensang is one of the original three districts, along with Mokokchung district and Kohima district formed at the time the state was created. Over the decades, the district has gradually diminished in size with the carving out of Mon, Longleng, Kiphire, Noklak and most recently Shamator districts from it. Yimkhiung Naga
Yimkhiung (formerly formally misspelled as Yimchunger) is a Naga ethnic group whose traditional territory includes Shamator and Kiphire District in the Indian state of Nagaland and western areas of Burma. Etymology The word Yimkhiung means "the ones who have reached their place of choice". They are also known as the Yachumi (also Yatsumi or Yachimi), which is a Sümi-influenced name. The Khiamniungans call Mongtsohai. The Chang's call Yamshong. While the Sangtam call them as Yachungre. History According to the Yimkhiung tradition, the ethnic group emerged at a village called Moru and then came to Jure (or Chiru) village. Tikhir Naga
The Tikhir are a Naga people, Naga tribe from Nagaland, India. They are listed as a Scheduled Tribe, in the official Census of India. The word "Tikhir" means "Dew People", meaning they were the first settlers of the place as they brush up the dewdrops. Neiphiu Rio
Neiphiu Guolhoulie Rio (born 11 November 1950) is an Indian politician serving as the 9th Chief Minister of Nagaland. Rio has also served as Chief Minister for three separate terms (2002–07, 2007–12, 2012–14 and 2018–till date), making him the only Nagaland Chief Minister to have served three consecutive terms.
