''Shakti: The Power'' is a 2002 Indian Hindi-language crime drama film co-written and directed by Krishna Vamsi, starring Karisma Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Sanjay Kapoor in leading roles, with Shah Rukh Khan, Deepti Naval, Ritu Shivpuri, Anupam Shyam and Prakash Raj in supporting roles. The film is a remake of the 1998 film ''Anthahpuram'', which was based on the real-life story of Betty Mahmoody. The original story of real life escape of the Betty Mahmoody is depicted in the film ''Not Without My Daughter (film), Not Without My Daughter'' (1991) which itself was based on Betty Mahmoody's Not Without My Daughter (book), book of the same name. ''Anthahpuram'' () is a 1998 Indian Telugu-language drama film written and directed by Krishna Vamsi. The film stars Soundarya, Prakash Raj, Sai Kumar and Jagapathi Babu with music composed by Ilayaraja. Inspired from 1991 American film ''Not Without My Daughter'' (1991), the plot follows an Indian-origin woman from Mauritius who, along with her young son, becomes trapped in a patriarchal and feudal household in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. ''Not Without My Daughter'' is a 1987 autobiographical book by Betty Mahmoody detailing the escape of Betty and her daughter, Mahtob, from Betty's abusive husband in Iran. In 1977, Betty married Dr. Sayyed Bozorg “Moody” Mahmoody. In 1984, when their daughter was four years old, Betty reluctantly agreed to accompany her husband on a two week vacation to Iran in order for his family to meet Mahtob. However, at the end of the two weeks, Moody decided that he, his wife and daughter would remain in Iran. Betty was trapped in Iran and could not return to the United States.
