Shahid Salahuddin Cantonment
Shahid Salahuddin Cantonment is a cantonment located in Ghatail Upazila, Tangail District, Bangladesh. The cantonment is named in honour of Captain Salauddin Mumtaz who was killed during Battle of Kamalpur in the Bangladesh War of Independence. The HQ of 19th Infantry Division is here. The contemporary commander is Major General Hussain Muhammad Mashiur Rahman. History On 9 November 2009, Chief Of General Staff (CGS) of Bangladesh Army witnessed first firing of recoilless rifle of Ghatail Field Firing Range. On 12 February 2014, two army soldiers and three soldiers of Border Guard Bangladesh died in a shell explosion at the firing range. Bangladesh Infantry Regiment
The Bangladesh Infantry Regiment (BIR) is an infantry regiment of the Bangladesh Army. It was raised in 2001 as the second infantry regiment after the East Bengal Regiment. The regiment was raised initially by renaming some battalions of the East Bengal Regiment, before its own recruits were trained. This was the first new regiment raised by the Bangladesh Army in the 21st century, and consequently is also known as the ''Regiment of the Millennium''. The 19th Infantry Division () is a formation of the Bangladesh Army based in Shahid Salahuddin Cantonment, located at Ghatail Upazila, Tangail District, Bangladesh. History 19th Infantry Division was established in Momenshahi Cantonment on 1 July 1992. At first the division was composed of 77th Infantry Brigade and 309th Infantry Brigade (stationed at Shahid Salahuddin Cantonment in Ghatail) consigned from the 9th Infantry Division. 19th Infantry division was fully ameliorated in December 1993 with the formation of 19th Artillery brigade. Battle Of Kamalpur
The Battle of Kamalpur (), launched against the Pakistan Army is one of the most significant military engagements fought by the Mukti Bahini in 1971 during its war of independence from Pakistan. The Pakistani Army set up a military camp at Kamalpur (now in Baksiganj Upazila of Jamalpur District) which was attacked by 1st East Bengal Regiment of Z Force several times. Salauddin Mumtaz
Salauddin Mumtaz BU (; 23 August 1945 – 31 July 1971) was a Bengali military officer during the Bangladesh Liberation War. In Bangladesh he is honorifically designated ''Shahid'' ("martyr") for dying for the Bangladeshi cause. He was also posthumously given the title ''Bir Uttom'', meaning "better among braves" in Bengali, the second-highest Bangladeshi award for gallantry. He is famous for one of his last quotes: "Yahya he Pakistani presidentdon't have the bullet to stop Salauddin," which ultimately proved true when, after all other efforts failed, the Pakistan Army only stopped him with a mortar bomb. Ghatail Upazila
Ghatail is an upazila located in Tangail District, Bangladesh. The upazila is bounded by Gopalpur and Madhupur upazilas on the north, Fulbaria and Bhaluka upazilas on the east, Kalihati and Sakhipur upazilas on the south, Bhuapur and Gopalpur upazilas on the west.
