Shahabuddin Ahmed Ministry
An interim government led by the Shahabuddin Ahmed ministry was formed on 9 December 1990 in Bangladesh, following President HM Ershad's resignation on 6 December in the face of a mass uprising against his regime. Shahabuddin had taken office as the acting president of the country after he was unanimously agreed upon by the leaders of all political parties to be ceremoniously appointed by Ershad just before resigning as vice-president in place of Moudud Ahmed. He administered the oath of office to his council of advisers at Bangabhaban on 9 December 1990. During this period, he gave back freedom of the press by amending a number of law including the Special Powers Act. Following the dissolution of the 4th term of the Jatiya Sangsad on 6 December 1990, the cabinet remained in office until 20 March 1991, when Khaleda Zia of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, which emerged as the largest party in the general election held in February, was appointed as the new Prime Minister. Bangladesh Nationalist Party
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party ( bn, বাংলাদেশ জাতীয়তাবাদী দল, Bangladesh Jātīyotābādī Dol; BNP) is a centre-right to right-wing nationalist, political party in Bangladesh and one of the major political parties of Bangladesh. It was founded on 1 September 1978 by former Bangladeshi President Ziaur Rahman after the Presidential election of 1978, with a view of uniting the people with a nationalist ideology. Since then, the BNP won the second, fifth, sixth and eighth national elections and two Presidential elections in 1978 and 1981. Rehman Sobhan
Rehman Sobhan ( bn, রেহমান সোবহান; born 12 March 1935) is a Bangladeshi economist. Regarded as one of the country's top public thinkers, he is the founder of the Centre for Policy Dialogue. Sobhan is an icon of the Bangladeshi independence movement due to his role as a spokesman of the Provisional Government of Bangladesh in the United States during the Bangladesh Liberation War. He was awarded the Independence Day Award, Bangladesh's highest civilian honour, in 2008. Fakhruddin Ahmed (secretary)
Fakhruddin Ahmed was a Bangladesh diplomat and former Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh. Early life Ahmed was born in 1931. He had a M. A. from the University of Dhaka. He had also studied at The Fletcher School at Tufts University. Career Ahmed joined the Pakistan Foreign Service in 1954. Ahmed was the Director (Personnel) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan. Ahmed returned to Bangladesh in 1973 through Afghanistan after Bangladesh achieved Independence from Pakistan in 1971 and started working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangladesh. M A Khaleq (1921-2008) was a judge and adviser, with the rank of minister, of Shahabuddin Ahmed caretaker government. Early life Khaleq was born in 1921 in Sonarai, Domar Upazila, Nilphamari District, East Bengal, British India. He graduated from Carmichael College in Rangpur. He completed his masters and law degree from University of Calcutta. Career In 1947, Khaleq joined the judicial branch of the East Pakistan Civil Service. From 1956 to 1966, he was served as the Secretary of East Pakistan Assembly. He then served as Sessions and District Judge. He retired from judicial service 1983. He worked at the Administrative Appellate Tribunal. He was commissioner of the Journalists' Wage Board Commission. He was a member of the Dhaka Shishu Hospital trustee board.
