Shadrach, Meshach, And Abednego
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Hebrew names Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah) are figures from chapter 3 of the biblical Book of Daniel. In the narrative, the three Jewish men are thrown into a fiery furnace by Nebuchadnezzar II, King of Babylon for refusing to bow to the king's image. The three are preserved from harm and the king sees four men walking in the flames, "the fourth ... like a son of God". They are first mentioned in Daniel 1, where alongside Daniel (biblical figure), Daniel they are brought to Babylon to study Aramaic, Chaldean Aramaic language and literature with a view to serving at the King's court, and their Hebrew language, Hebrew names are replaced with Babylonian names. Azariah Shadrach
Azariah Shadrach (1774–1844) was a Welsh evangelical writer and pastor. Life He was born on 24 June 1774 at Garn Deilo fach in the parish of Llanfair-Nant-y-Gôf, Pembrokeshire, the fifth son of Henry and Ann Shadrach of Nevern. As an adult and farm servant to a local Independent minister, John Richards, he had access to his employer's books. At his master's suggestion he decided to enter the Independent ministry, and in 1798 he went on a preaching tour to North Wales. Shadrach was induced by to remain in the area as a schoolmaster, first at Hirnant near Bala, and then at Pennal and Derwenlas near Machynlleth. Towards the end of 1802 he was ordained pastor of the independent church at Llanrwst. There he campaigned against the Gŵyl Mabsantau which flourished in the district. In November 1806 he removed to north Cardiganshire, where he had charge of the churches of Talybont and Llanbadarn Fawr. Shadrach Woods (June 30, 1923 – July 31, 1973) was an American architect, urban planner and theorist. Biography Schooled in engineering at New York University and in literature and philosophy at Trinity College, Dublin, Woods joined the Paris office of Le Corbusier in 1948. Assigned to the project for the ''Unité d'Habitation'', then under construction in Marseille, France, Woods met the Azerbaijan-born Greek architect George Candilis, with whom he would later form a lasting partnership. Shadrach Walton (1658 3 October 1741) was a British colonial administrator and soldier in the Province of New Hampshire. Military and administrative career Walton commanded Fort William and Mary before 1684, and again from 1697 to 1708. He was appointed ensign in 1690, when New Hampshire and Massachusetts were reunited. He was a selectman of Portsmouth town from 1688 to 1692. He served as a judge of the Court of Common Pleas from 1695-1698, and again 1716-1733. He commanded the New Hampshire provincial troops during the siege of Port Royal 1710, and commanded a combined regiment of New Hampshire and Rhode Island troops during the Quebec Expedition 1711. Shadrach Roundy (January 1, 1789 – July 4, 1872 Jenson, Andrew. ''Latter-day Saint Biographical Encyclopedia'' (Salt Lake City, utah: Deseret news Press, 1936) vol. 4, p. 717.) was an early Latter Day Saint leader born in Rockingham, Vermont. Shadrach Minkins (c. 1814 – December 13, 1875) was an African-American fugitive slave from Virginia who escaped in 1850 and reached Boston. He also used the pseudonyms Frederick Wilkins and Frederick Jenkins.Collison (1998), p. 1. He is known for being freed from a courtroom in Boston after being captured by United States marshals under the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. Members of the Boston Vigilance Committee freed and hid him, helping him get to Canada via the Underground Railroad. Minkins settled in Montreal, where he raised a family. Shadrack Ireland (bapt. 16 January 1718 – died September 1778) was a religious leader in 18th-century America in the wake of the First Great Awakening. He was a disciple of George Whitefield. He taught what is known as Perfectionism, meaning that he and certain of his followers had achieved perfection in their lifetime. Ireland was the child of Abraham and Abigail (Durrant) Ireland and he was baptized in Cambridge, Massachusetts on 16 January 1718.
