Shaaban Abash
Shaaban Abash (, ; 1890 – 1953) was the rider of the Abkhazians, Abkhazian hundreds of the Circassian cavalry regiment of the Caucasian native division during the World War I, First World War. Shaaban was Abkhazians of African descent, Afro-Abkhazian. Early life Shaaban Abash was born in the village of Adzyubzha, in what was then the Sukhum Okrug of the Kutais Governorate in the Russian Empire (now Abkhazia) to an Afro-Abkhazians, Afro-Abkazian peasant family. He had eleven brothers and sisters. Military service and work At the age of 17, he enrolled in the Abkhazian hundred of the Circassian cavalry regiment, which took part in the First World War. He was awarded the Cross of St. George for making a reconnaissance raid across river Dniester and returning under fire after collecting valuable intelligence. Adzyubzha
Adzyubzha ( ka, აძიუბჟა; ; ) is a rural settlement in the Ochamchire Municipality of Abkhazia, Georgia (country), Georgia’s breakaway republic. Situated at the mouth of Kodori River, the settlement was known as the most important center of the Afro-Abkhazians, Afro-Abkhazian population who lived in Adzyubzha and its vicinity. History Adzyubzha had a population of 3597 people in 1989 but it was significantly depopulated following the War in Abkhazia (1992–1993), 1993 War.
