Sha Na Na
Sha Na Na was an American rock and roll and doo-wop revival group formed in 1969. The group performed a song-and-dance repertoire based on 1950s hit songs that both revived and parodied the music and the New York City street culture of the 1950s. After gaining initial fame for their performance at the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, made possible with help from their friend Jimi Hendrix, the group hosted ''Sha Na Na'', a syndicated variety series that ran from 1977 to 1981. Billing themselves as "from the Streets of New York", members were frequently outfitted in gold lamé or leather jackets and sported pompadour or ducktail hairdos. The group's name was taken from a series of nonsense syllables ("sha na na na, sha na na na na") in the song " Get a Job", originally recorded by the Silhouettes. The ducktail is a men's haircut style popular during the 1950s. It is also called the duck's tail, duck's ass, duck's arse, or simply D.A. and is also described as slicked back hair. The hair is pomaded (greased), combed back around the sides, and parted centrally down the back of the head. Showaddywaddy are a rock and roll group from Leicester, England. They specialise in revivals of hit songs from the 1950s and early 1960s, while also issuing original material. Flash Cadillac & the Continental Kids, now known as Flash Cadillac, is an American retro rock 'n' roll band known for their appearance as the band "Herby and the Heartbeats" in the 1973 film ''American Graffiti'' and a 1975 episode of ''Happy Days'' as the band "Johnny Fish & the Fins". "At the Hop" is a 1950s pop song written by Artie Singer, John Medora, and David White and originally released by Danny & the Juniors. The song was first issued circa October 1957 on a small Philadelphia label (Singular 711) and included a countdown, before being acquired by ABC-Paramount and reissued as ABC-Paramount 9871 in November. It reached number one on the Cash Box and Billboard charts in January, becoming one of the top-selling singles of 1958. "At the Hop" also hit number one on the R&B Best Sellers list. Screamin' Scott Simon
Scott Jared Simon (December 9, 1948 – September 5, 2024), also known as Screamin' Scott Simon, was an American pianist known for playing in Sha Na Na from April 1970 until the band's disbandment in December 2022. Early life and education Simon was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 9, 1948. He graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City, in 1966, and graduated from Columbia University with a B.A. in 1970. In college, he played piano and sang with the Royal Pythons, a band that included Chris Donald on guitar (who went on to join him in Sha Na Na in 1970), Jack Hartford on drums, and Richard Yospin on bass. Sha Na Na Simon joined Sha Na Na in April 1970, under the name "Screamin' Scott Simon". He wrote numerous songs that have been recorded by the band and others over the years. Jocko Marcellino
John Fair "Jocko" Marcellino (born May 12, 1950) is an American musician best known as one of the founders of the rock and roll group Sha Na Na, where he performed drums and vocals. He performed with Sha Na Na at the original Woodstock Festival, in the movie '' Grease'' and on their eponymous syndicated TV show. Early life and education Marcellino was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, and raised in Braintree, the fifth of six children. His younger sister is Noella Marcellino. He began drumming at age seven and formed his first band, The Miltones from Milton, Massachusetts, at age 13. At 17, he joined The Pilgrims with saxophonist Lennie Baker, whom he later recruited for Sha Na Na.
