Sethu (film)
''Sethu'' () is a 1999 Indian Tamil language, Tamil-language romance film, romantic tragedy film, written and directed by Bala (director), Bala in his debut. The film stars Vikram (actor), Vikram and Abitha. The score and soundtrack were composed by Ilaiyaraaja, with cinematography by R. Rathnavelu and editing by Raghu Baabu. ''Sethu'', released on 10 December 1999, initially began running as a single noon show in a suburban theatre, but gradually built up audiences through word-of-mouth publicity. The film became a sleeper hit, and Vikram's first major breakthrough film. It won the National Film Award for Best Tamil Feature Film, and the Best Film award at the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Tamil, Filmfare Awards and the Cinema Express Award for Best Film – Tamil, Cinema Express Awards. Bala (director)
Bala is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and film producer, working in Tamil cinema. Bala has been praised for "revolutionizing Tamil cinema" through his realistic, dark and disturbing depiction of the working class on celluloid screen. Raja (born 9 April 1971), known professionally as Vignesh, is an Indian actor who predominantly works in Tamil cinema. Career Vignesh was selected to play the lead role in Balu Mahendra's ''Vanna Vanna Pookkal'' (1992) but he was removed from the film after working on it for seven days and was replaced by Prashanth. Balanathan Benjamin Mahendran (20 May 1939 13 February 2014), commonly known as Balu Mahendra, was a Sri Lankan Tamil cinematographer, director, screenwriter and film editor who worked in various Indian film industries, primarily in Tamil and Malayalam cinema. Born in Sri Lanka, Mahendran developed a passion for photography and literature at a young age, after witnessing the shoot of David Lean's '' The Bridge on the River Kwai'' (1957) during a school trip in Sri Lanka, he was drawn towards filmmaking.
