Seth Raynor
Seth Jagger Raynor (May 7, 1874 – January 23, 1926) was an American golf course architect and engineer. He designed approximately 85 golf courses in about 13 years, his first in 1914, at age 40. His mentor was Charles Blair Macdonald, the creator of the National Golf Links of America, and a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Raynor was also the mentor of Charles Banks who completed many of Raynor's unfinished works after he died. Banks went on to a solo design career, creating approximately 15 courses. Raynor was born in Manorville, New York. He attended Princeton University, studying civil engineering, before leaving in 1898 without a degree. He married Araminta (known as Minta) Hallock in 1903, and for the first years of his working life, engineered drains, roads and waterworks in the area around Southampton, N.Y. where his family had relocated and where he would live for the rest of his life. Manorville is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 14,314 at the 2010 census. The Hotchkiss School is a coeducational preparatory school in Lakeville, Connecticut, United States. Hotchkiss is a member of the Eight Schools Association and Ten Schools Admissions Organization. It is also a former member of the G30 Schools group. Fishers Island Club
The Fishers Island Club is a country club located near the eastern end of Fishers Island in New York. The club includes an eighteen-hole golf course designed by Seth Raynor that was ranked ninth in the 2009 ''Golf Digest'' list of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses. Essex County Country Club (ECCC) is a golf club in West Orange, New Jersey. It was founded in 1887, making it the oldest club in the state of New Jersey and the sixth oldest in the United States. History Essex County Country Club was established on what used to be the Orange Springs Hotel, a health resort centered around the Orange Mineral Springs. The hotel was purchased in 1889 and became ECCC. The former hotel became known as the Mansion House and became the clubhouse. Blue Mound Golf & Country Club is a country club in the north central United States, located in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, a suburb west of Milwaukee. The golf course was designed by Seth Raynor. Augusta Country Club
The Augusta Country Club (ACC) is a country club and golf course in Augusta, Georgia. It is located immediately adjacent to the more famous Augusta National Golf Club (ANGC). It also borders on the Sands Hill Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic African-American community. History In 1897, the 9-hole golf course known as the Bon Air Golf Club was designed by Donald Ross. In 1901, the course was expanded to 18-holes and then became known as the Augusta Country Club. In 1930, ACC held their first major national golf championship, the Southeastern Open, where amateur Bobby Jones defeated professional Horton Smith. In 2001, ACC successfully completed a restoration based on original 1927 Donald Ross sketches from the Tufts Archives in Pinehurst, North Carolina, which is how it remains today. Everglades Club
The Everglades Club is a social club in Palm Beach, Florida. When its construction began in July 1918, it was to be called the ''Touchstone Convalescent Club'', and it was intended to be a hospital for the wounded of World War I. But the war ended a few months later, and it changed into a private club. The Club has no sign, website, or Wi-Fi. Cell phones are prohibited. History Paris Singer and his good friend, the architect Addison Mizner, were visiting Palm Beach in the spring of 1918. Singer decided to build a hospital with Mizner as the architect.
