William Albert Setchell
William Albert Setchell (April 15, 1864 – April 5, 1943) was an American botanist and marine phycologist who taught at the University of California, Berkeley, where he headed the Botany Department. Among his publications are the ''Phycotheca Boreali-Americana'', a multi-volume specimen collection of dried algae, and the ''Algae of Northwestern America'', a reference work. Education Setchell was born in Norwich, Connecticut, to George Case Setchell and Mary Ann (Davis) Setchell. Setchell showed an early interest in natural history that was furthered during his years at the Norwich Free Academy. He went to Yale University as an undergraduate and to Harvard University for graduate work, where he studied with William Gilson Farlow, a specialist in cryptogams. He did his thesis work on the anatomy and morphology of kelps. West Winch
West Winch is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It covers an area of and had a population of 2,596 in 1,068 households at the 2001 census, the population increasing to 2,734 at the 2011 census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. The village's name means 'pasture (specialised) farm'. 'West' to distinguish from East Winch. King's Lynn and West Norfolk is a local government district with borough status in Norfolk, England. Its council is based in the town of King's Lynn. The population of the Local Authority at the 2011 Census was 147,451. History The district was formed in 1974 by the merger of the Municipal Borough of King's Lynn, Hunstanton and Downham Market urban districts along with Docking Rural District, Downham Rural District, Freebridge Lynn Rural District and Marshland Rural District.
