Serouj Kradjian
Serouj Kradjian (born in 1973) is a Canadian Grammy-nominated and Juno-winning pianist and composer. Early life and education Born in 1973, at fourteen earned a scholarship to study in Vienna, and was gaining accolades by the age of seven. He later studied with Marietta Orlov at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Music, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance in 1994. He studied with Einar Steen-Nökleberg at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover, Germany, receiving a Solo Performance degree in 2001. Performances Kradjian has appeared with the Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton Symphonies, Göttingen Symphony, Russian National Orchestra, the Armenian Philharmonic and the Thailand Philharmonic under the baton of conductors such as Bramwell Tovey, Peter Oundjian, Stéphane Denève, Eduard Topchjan, Gudni Emilsson and Raffi Armenian. Raffi Armenian
Raffi Armenian, (born June 4, 1942) is a Canadian conductor, pianist, composer, and teacher. He directed the Kitchener–Waterloo Symphony orchestra for many years. Since 1999 he has been the director of Orchestral Studies at the University of Toronto. From 2008 to 2013 he was the director of the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal. Early life and education Armenian was born in Cairo and had his first music lessons there, moving in 1959 to Vienna to study piano with Bruno Seidlhofer. After graduating, he put his musical studies aside and attended the University of London from 1962 to 1965, where he majored in metallurgy. Russell Braun
Russell Braun (born 19 July 1965) is a Canadian operatic lyric baritone and conductor (music), and Juno Award winner. Much sought-after as a soloist and for opera roles, Russell Braun performs regularly at the Metropolitan Opera, the Salzburg Festival, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, l'Opéra de Paris, the San Diego Opera, the San Francisco Opera and the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. Dawn Upshaw
Dawn Upshaw (born July 17, 1960) is an American soprano. She is the recipient of several Grammy Awards and has released a number of Edison Award-winning discs; she performs both opera and art song, and her repertoire spans Baroque to contemporary. Many composers, including Henri Dutilleux, Osvaldo Golijov, John Harbison, Esa-Pekka Salonen, John Adams, and Kaija Saariaho, have written for her. In 2007, she was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship. Jonathan Crow
Jonathan Crow is a prominent Canadian violinist. He has been the Toronto Symphony Orchestra's concertmaster beginning in 2011. From 2002 to 2006, he was concertmaster of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM). Crow was born in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. Performances and Recordings In addition to his role as Concertmaster of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra beginning in 2011, Crow maintains a strong performance and recording schedule as a soloist. Kim Chee-yun
Kim Chee Yun (; born 1970) is a violinist from Seoul, South Korea. Her professional name is "Chee-Yun". Kim performed in Korea at the age of 13. She studied at the Juilliard School with Dorothy DeLay, Hyo Kang, and Felix Galimir. She won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1989 which led to her New York City recital debut at Carnegie Hall. She records for the Denon label. Kim was appointed Artist-in-Residence at the Southern Methodist University, Dallas Texas in 2008. Besides teaching, she still actively tours and gives recitals and concert performances. Kim plays the Stradivarius "Ex-Strauss" (Cremona, 1708), loaned by Samsung Corporation. Kim owns a Francesco Ruggieri violin made in the year 1669 which she purchased during the early years of her career. Ara Malikian (born 1968) is a Lebanese-born violinist of Armenian descent. He was educated in Germany and was later based in Spain. He has a wide repertoire and includes music from many cultures. He has played in over 40 countries and has won numerous prizes in international competitions. Malikian has recorded nearly 30 albums over a period of 25 years.
