Serkalem Biset Abrha, also known as ''Abrha Serkalem Biset,'' (born March 8, 1987) is a runner from Ethiopia who competes in long distance running and has won several major international marathons. Running career Abrha's first major races outside of Ethiopia were in India's Delhi International Half Marathon and the Standard Chartered Lahore 10K from 2005 to 2007. She finished second in the half marathon in 2006, winning $1,000. In 2008, Abrha won the Maas Marathon (Dutch:''Maasmarathon of the Basse-Meuse'') in rural Visé, Belgium. Later that year, she raced the Hartford Marathon in Connecticut. More than 5,000 runners started out from Bushnell Park at 8 a.m. for the 15th annual race. Soldiers And Sailors Memorial Arch
The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch in Bushnell Park, Hartford, Connecticut, honors the 4,000 Hartford citizens who served in the American Civil War, including 400 who died for the Union cause. It is notable as the first permanent memorial arch to be built in America. History The arch's conception dates from October 21, 1879, when a committee formed to sponsor a competition (held in 1881). The committee declined to approve any of the winning schemes and in 1884 awarded the commission to the Hartford based architect George Keller. He produced an eclectic design with two Norman towers flanking a Gothic arch, decorated with a classical frieze, embellished with statues modeled by the Swiss-born sculptor Albert Entress (1846-1926). Buzunesh Deba (born 8 September 1987) is a Bronx-based Ethiopian long-distance runner. She won the 2014 Boston Marathon in her personal-best time of 2:19:59. In the race, Deba finished behind Rita Jeptoo, who was later disqualified for doping. A prolific runner since 2009, she is a winner of the California International Marathon, San Diego Marathon, Los Angeles Marathon, Grandma's Marathon, Boston Marathon, and Twin Cities Marathon.
